Hello, I have a need to have a smaller WIFI network, specifically on the 2.4ghz band. This is for a Pet Tracking GPS collar. The Asus zenwifi 12 has such a huge coverage area the GPS collar picks up WIFI signal way far from my house, and that makes the collar report that the pet is home when its 2 blocks away. Since it uses 2.4 and the only thing I think I have that does, I was hoping to create a new WIFI network that had smaller range somehow. is that even a feature or thing that can be done and how?

Does your phone also stay connected? I am skeptical of your "2 blocks away" claim. WIFI range is typically 150ft. The collar probably has less WIFI range.

Do you know the answer to the question of how to reduce the range?

Yes it does and yes it stays connected when on the block over, more then 1 is 2, so not sure what the point of your questions are.

There is no full manual on Asus site. You will have to check the WIFI settings to see if there is a transmit power option for 2.4Ghz.
Where I live a "block" is a mile, so I guess you blocks are smaller.

On regular Asus routers, you can adjust the Transmit power manually. But as said the online manual is lacking for the ZEN units. They may have dumbed down the software in the ZEN units, so I'm not sure if the configuration is the same.

You can also turn off Beamforming to reduce range as well.

Here's a youtube video for regular Asus routers, again I'm not sure about the ZEN units.
