Monitor implies a certain distance, IMO.
As for the hostility, sorry. I interpreted your comment as sarcasm or an attempt at correction.

I sit close up on a 768p 28" screen. My eyes are fine, and I don't want to pull out my retinas. I'm not constently sitting there thinking "oh this resolution" - I'm just happy with it, especially after using the old CRT 480p monitors back in the day.

I would much rather game on a 23" or 24" with a higher resolution than 1920x1080. But on the other side of the argument is that I have a gsync screen and I wouldn't mind dropping it as long as I get 120hz or more. All the features I want in a screen is almost there ...almost... just like every monitor I was trying to get for the past year. Something always missing.

I hear ya. I stopped looking when I relized that 3D (and its not a huge priority for me) was limited to 24fps if it was 1080p. At that point, I had two options: Wait forever since there will always be something Id like that just came out, or get something I like and stick with it.
I went the second route and bought a Panasonic 50VT60 for my monitor, and while Starcraft Broodwar is almost unplayable on 50 inches (thats my favorite game), everything else looks awesome. So, I am not using 3D, Gsync, 4K or marbles and chicken foot but I still dont want anything else 😀.

I can't believe there are people who still play on a screen this small. I play on a 82" Mitsubishi DLP screen and love it. I've been playing this way for years. My next set- up will either be the Vive or Oculus Rift. You small screen people need to get with it.

Thank you for your apology :) "Monitor" of course implies that it will be sitting on your desk in front of you in most case. However you might still have a range of distance at which you can set your monitor depending on the size of your desk. Maybe that guy with a 32" 1080p TV as a monitor has a massive desk and isn't sitting as close to it as you do with your 27" 1080p monitor.

I cant believe you need this explained. PC Gamers prefer 24-27" because they're sitting 10-15" in front of it.

I can vouch,. My desk is only big enough for one 27" and one 24", but I need two of the same so I'm probably going to have to go with 2x 24". Sucks that the manus can't even use a consistent enough process to have two equally-specced but different-size monitors look similar in terms of colours and whatnot.

Oh... please Commodore... show me some concrete facts that gamers prefer playing on a 24" postage stamp size screen. When was the last time you took a scientific poll? HUH?...your comment is strictly your personal opinion. You don't speak for the masses. Most gamers who play on a screen of 24 to 27" are usually young guys who don't have the deep pockets to buy anything bigger or...they haven't experienced the joy of playing on a big screen as I have for the last 3 years, If they had they would never go back to playing on a small screen. The only screen I would even consider downsizing 2 would be one of the 34" IPS ultra wide monitors by LG or Samsung...now there's a couple of monitors that any intelligent gamer would love 2 have...problem is their still too expensive. Buying any new screen right now would be a waste of money anyway...the Vive from Steam and the Oculus Rift should be out by the Holidays.

meh 1440p, and i think its dvi the one that should die not vga...vga is cheaper for small panels that see no advantage to move to dvi, and panels that favor from dvi... well they are better served from hdmi and/or DP.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND ITS HUGE...... well not that huge like the oldie parallel db25... but still...

WTF?!...what is it you don't understand?
PC GAMERS SIT 10-15" AWAY FROM THE MONITOR. The fact you think this has something to do with financial cost is hilariously misguided.
For console gaming a big screen is fine, I have one too. Please explain how its physically practical for me to use it for PC gaming?

...and the "concrete facts" your after would be the sales numbers of the most popular sized PC monitors...which are... 24"-27".

Before you act all self righteous and denounce a huge portion of the movement, consider the fact that I don't WANT a larger screen than 27". Maybe laterally, but if I wanted a bloody TV or some washed out projector I'd have bought an Xbox.

I'm sure some people appreciate something bigger, but I would think it fair to say a fair portion not only do not, but are actively opposed to the idea of some massive projector.

I'm also completely uninterested in the Rift/Vive/Samsung thing/PS4 thing VR headsets. I personally think they're a gimmick and a waste of good money. Never cared, probably never will until they can give me something Hack.sign-esque.

Wake me when they ship a new 2560x1600 in 24 or 27 or 30. I have just about zero interest in leaving my 1920x1200 without the next one being 16:10. Wider is better on cars, not my monitor 😉 I'm sick of scrolling up/down. Grow the top/bottom not the sides please. They have ONE monitor that is 2560x1600 on their site, u3014 and it's $1400! Wake me when they put one out under $700. I paid $650 for the 2407wfp-hc and love it. Why can't they do a 27in now for $500-700? They can do a 34in curved one for $1200 (21:9...LOL) but no 16:10 for under 700?

Never got why they kept 2560x1440 screens to the 27"+ crowd for so long to begin with. Feels like its been over a decade and this resolution could have gone more mainstream if the manufacturers didn't purposely hold it back. Same thing goes with 120Hz and IPS displays.

Because mass production of one standard is far cheaper, and these higher resolutions are (Were) not cheap to produce. They simply decided on 27", and that was that. Why do you think all cheap 4K monitors are 28"? Same reason.

Not forgetting the quality of monitors compared to large TV's, High refresh rates, low response times, the inclusion of G-Sync/Free-sync etc etc. I don't even think he understands that the overwhelming proportion of PC gamers use Keyboard+mouse.

If you sit 15" away from the screen, you are likely ruining your eyesight assuming you have not ruined it already or are from the minority with Resting Point of Vergence distance (the minimum distance at which you can stare at something indefinitely without straining your eyes) that short. Normal people have RPoV in the 30-40" range.

True, I sit at least 2 feet from my monitor. I'm nearsighted as shit, mind you.
Thankfully I don't(?) need my glasses for use on the computer, though I'm very tempted to get some of those knockoff Gunnar's to help with the eyestrain.

That day... will never come. Sadly, the only way to enjoy top performance is to buy the best of the best, and to sit on it until it dies. The 30inch series used to be worth it back in 2008, when I bought mine for about $2000. It still runs fantastically well, I have no intention or need to replace it, and it has not become obsolete in any sense even after 7 years.

The only way you can enjoy similar satisfaction my friend is to invest in one of those 32 inch 4K IGZO monitors. Trust me, those would last you a good ten years or longer before "becoming obsolete", and will continue to function very well even after that. I personally didn't jump on that train because my 30 inch was still so good.

As the power of JPN, I feel compelled to fix you error in citation. It is ".hack//Sign" not "Hack.sign". As punishment, I order thee to do a marathon rewatch within the next 24 hours.

I can't. The protagonist just looks off - can't bring myself to watch it because of that (the plot was interesting enough, but that one detail just gets me)
