Sadly I agree, which is why I'm hanging on to my 24 dell for a while I guess. I may spring for the u3014 though, as over 7yrs (had mine for longer now) I'll save $350 or so with my old dell running 150w typical vs. ~50w for the 30in...LOL. WOW. I punched it in on a watt calc and my typical usage (not gaming much either, just work etc after hours/weekend etc) and was quite shocked at the savings. I figure at xmas I can get it for $1100-1200. I think i've seen it for $1150 once or twice, I have a dell corp account too so can get it on either side at times. I got my 24 from dell with that and basically got the 4yr warranty for free.

Not sure how good those would be but there are still a few models out, I just like the dell perf, colors etc. My 24 is STILL impressive 7yrs+ later. Knowing I keep it as long as your talking probably, I can justify the cost, especially considering the watt discount. I did a double take when I checked the watts vs. my current model. I have a 22in beside it and can't wait to replace it with a 27/30. I'd bounce back and forth depending on games (maxing graphics sends me to one or the other) just like now. I've seen the dell 30, it's sweet. An xmas discount+watts saved over 8-10yrs makes it seem pretty affordable I guess and that price isn't out of reach for me, it just makes me cringe some...LOL. I have some professional interests for it too, so again probably well worth it. I have never regretted paying $650 for my 24 dell in the face of many far below that. It would surely drop the heat in a room here in AZ at those watts also when gaming on it, though both are on when not gaming anyway, which is the majority of my usage these days. If 14/16nm gpus don't make it into 2015 (or heck even 20nm...LOL we've been waiting how long for a shrink of gpu?), I could definitely see a 30in dell in my xmas list this year. 😉 Maybe even a pair just to dump the heat from the 24.

Heat is a massive battle here in AZ for basically 6-8 months if not more. I bought a devils canyon to bring the heat down some and was hoping for a gpu this year to get a good jump in perf from my current card and drop the heat while doing it. I think that with a monitor would complete me (to steal a tom cruise line)...LOL. I could likely avoid the $1300 AC unit I was thinking of adding just for 1-2 rooms. NO point in cooling a 2500sqft house for my PC room but I'd rather spend $1300 more (above devil's+GA-Z97-UD5H-BK bought 2 weeks ago+an 850evo as a bonus gift to self...ROFL) on the PC to defeat the heat :) Sadly this house has no zoned AC. It was a mistake listening to the AZ builder, "nobody uses that here, no need for single story" and they wanted far more for zoned...ARGHHH!

@ op8...Your not very perspicacious are you. The fact that you have 2 rely on clichés like (WTF) says a lot about your character, and your inability 2 express yourself without coming off as being rude. Not ALL PC gamers sit 10-15" away from their screens. That is a misguided broad brush statement. You assume too much. All my PC gaming friends play on screens that are 30" or more, and they love playing that way. What part of that don't YOU understand? Just keep playing your games on your Horse and Buggy screen, and keep feeding it a good diet of hay and oats and maybe someday your screen will grow up and be able 2 play with the big boys. LOL

Be quiet, will you? Many of us have no interest in massive screens. Im absolutely fine with 27". Good for you liking large screens, but for some it's simply not preference.

I think most of us would gladly take large higher resolution displays if they were within our budget and we had somewhere to put them. I have neither, so I stick to 24".

I only upgraded to 1440p (Dell U2713H) at the end of 2013 after using a 26" 1920x1200 Samsung for four years (moved up then from a 22" 1680x1050 Samsung used for a few years). I succumbed to the fact that 16:10 is a dying format and did not want to spend the outrageous extra money for a 30" 2560x1600.

This size is perfect for a side monitor while keeping both the resolution and aspect ratio the same as my primary 27", something that is jacked up somewhat with the 26" Samsung being used for the time being which has other apps going while gaming like PC temp monitoring and email (it's also a power and heat hog). I am about two years away from 4K gaming on my upgrade schedule between higher resolutions and new GPUs, and may just buy a small 40" TV with a display port by that time instead of a 4K PC monitor.
