Question for y'all. I have a couple of old AT cases, and want to convert the over to ATX due to the fact a good ATX full tower is just too damn expensive. Any ideas? I have a couple of good ATX PS, but other than just snipping away with tin snips, I have no clues.

Thanks
Thomas

Buy or borrow a Dremel tool. It beats the heck out of cutting into the case by hand! It's cheaper than buying a case (well, most cases, anyway), and it will come in handy in many situations, especially if you are interested in doing case-modding. I couldn't live without mine! (Slight exaggeration. <GRIN>)

If you do ANY kind of case modding, a dremel is worth its weight in gold. That bad boy simply rules.

A tip: avoid the battery-powered dremel and go for the corded one. There's nothing worse than being halfway through a long project and having the battery die on ya. Big time momentum killer.

Sorry but you have to work out your own answer to this.

Is it easy to physically modify the cases for ATX psu's?

Do the ATX psu's have long enough DC output cables for a full tower case?

Can you implement 'soft' power-on easily on the AT cases?

You may need more than a dremel....

<font color=blue>Acutally, I bought a decent Full tower case with mobo slide out tray, side entry, 300w ps, 3 fans, and 8 tooless screws (nice brass ones) from <A HREF="http://www.webuildpcs.com/wbpc/" target="_new">http://www.webuildpcs.com/wbpc/</A> for 82.50 after shipping.

Of course - what is a lot of $ is always a matter of perspective.

That isn't too much. My problem is, for the type of case I am looking for, they are asking somewhere around $400/500. I need 18 5 1/4 bays, 12 of which need to be external. Figgured I might be able to mod an old case or two to cobble 'em together. I have a dremel (corded... gosh, you gotta love when a HW store goes out of business) but haven't done too many case mods prior to this. Anyone know of a place to get a good server case (see above specs, 1 PS fine) for under $250?

connect the reset toggle on your AT case to the pwr on jumper on your m/b....that should take care of the power up of the atx PSU.

The case mod will br tough though....i used a dremmel tool
and a hack saw and a couple good files....it's hard work...
I recommend buying an ATX case....a decent one will run about 50 bucks.

I'm not in touch with my feeings, and I like it that way!
