At what resolution should I play?

So since I got my new config I've been wondering at what resolution should I play.
This is my rig: x370 taichi, r5 2600x, gtx 1080 ti, 16GB@2933CL15.
I only play games for fun, nothing competitive (like cs, overwatch, etc) only games like AC:O, The Witcher, Rise of The TR, so high refresh rate doesn't mean anything to me.
But the thing is, everybody say my config is too much for 1080p and not enough for 4k, pointing 2k or 2.5k as the sweetspot.
Anyway, the question is simple: do you guys think I'll be happy and doing a great deal buying a 4k TV (with a nice display and gaming mode)? I really like big displays!

Thanks!

34" 3440x1440P/75hz/IPS, the games you've listed support 21:9 and look absolutely beautiful on a IPS ultra wide.

The system will handle 4K/60hz around the high/ultra settings as well. For a good price 4K HDTV I went with the TCL S405 49", the professional reviews are good for a tv you can get for just over $300 ($330ish for "55 version).

I'd most certainly recommend ultrawide - the resolution/refresh WildCard recommends will work wonderfully, particularly if the monitor is GSync equipped.

Going even bigger are 38" screens with 3840x1600 resolution, but I don't know if any 3840x1600 screens that exist with GSync.

Wildcard999 nice site, it shows lots of tvs and it's so red when it comes to gaming!! I think I'll buy a TV, played my hole life ylwothout gsync, I guess I won't loose much staying away from it a little bit longer.
Comingo to 1080ti performance, will I be able to play the majority of the games (AAA titles) in 4k@60fps setting it to ultra/high right? I'm asking because there's no way I can test it since I don't have a 4k display and haven't found a video on YouTube showing the necessary graphics tweaks to achieve 60 fps.

Actually you can test 4K if you have a 1080P monitor, go into Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > DSR-Factors > Check 4X Box. Now when you go into a game change the resolution to 3840x2160 (4K). Turn off vsync and you'll be able to see how well the system performs in 4K without having to buy a 4K TV.
