ATA storage controller question

Anyone knows what will happen if i deactivate Intel R series/C200 series Cipset family 4 port serial Ata storage controller - 1C00

I'm pretty sure that any hard drives connected on the SATA ports it runs will stop working. However, likely a reboot will bring them back online anyway.
