Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n Wireless Not Working

PLEASE HELP! I have searched the net for months to a solution for this problem, which has been fixed temporarily multiple times - with different solutions or NO solution each time.

I see the net is FLOODED with problems similar but none have answered my question, and those which may have seemed to be on the right track gave very vague information on the fix, and I am unable to determine what to do.

I assume you will sadly need more information that I know how to provide with my inital question so please explain how to access the information of me you request.

I sincerely appreciate the help, I'm loosing my mind here, its my damn birthday and I just want to relax with this issue resolved.

In my device manager the Wifi doesn't show... than it does... than it doesn't... than it does.... when it DOES show 9/10 times (10/10 recently) it has an (!) and the error is Code 12, not enough resources.

People say turn this off and that on, go in BIOS, all this crap but my sad Dell Inspiron N5030 has the worst BIOS ever.... also, I'm just not adept at these things as I once was.

I am constantly reinstalling the driver which has the files on the computer already.

Sometimes when I do this it works (the install) and I can again see my Wifi in Dev Man, but, when it does not work it says the Network Card is not plugged in or present, in those cases it doesnt even show WiFi in Dev Man with the (!).

THis willl be working, I will reboot and it stops... or sometimes in the midst of using the computer its just gone from Dev Man.

I do NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO... And I'm reeeeeally at my wits end.

I guess I rambled here, sorry guys... any help would be appreciated beyond words.

Because you did not mention it: You do know, there is function key for the wireless? Press the key on the function key row on the keyboard to enable or disable wireless. The wireless on or off icons appear on the screen to indicate the status. Wireless enabled Wireless disabled

Yeah, I've used all the answers one might thing to try, function key, reinstallation of drivers, etc.

The card will disappear from Device Manager.... whenever it IS there it has an (!) and Code 12, not enough resources.

Also, it works than doesn't.... I assume it could be the hardware but it works FINE when it works. I am not sure.

do you have anything installed that you don't use? serial ports, parallel ports, ether card, mabe something else. if so try disabling them in the bios. if you cant disable them in the bios then try disabling them in windows by selecting the hardware you don't need and selecting disable hardware(don't select remove because windows will find the hardware again and try reinstalling it) id start with your serial and parallel ports and your wired Ethernet card. that should free up enough "resources" for the card to work fine. after disabling remember reboot windows.

not enough resources means that there are too many devices hooked up and trying to run on the computer at once and its at the limits of interrupts or small area of memeory that has to be shared by all the physical hardware(all hardware shares a 300kb section of memory with info on how the software is to talk to the card)

What can I disable? I've selected to also view hidden devices.... there are so many.... im just not sure which are OK. WLAN Mini port has a bunch, SSTP, PPTP, PPPOE, Network Monitor, L2TP, IPv6, IP, IKEv2

thats all just networking, figure start there.

start with the wired Ethernet, disable the ar8152 controller both of them. just remember to use a wired network you will have to enable them again. leave all the other hidden devices alone( there not really physical devices but software required for network connections)

then see if your computer wifi will work normally after that. you may want to reboot after you disable them two devices so it can reset the resource usage then see if you still have your issues

Nope, didn't work. Also had already disabled my CD/DVD Rom and Webcam as I never use them. When I reboot frequently sometimes the device (Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter) is in device manager, with the (!) - while others it does not even appear, though, the hidden device "Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter - Wireless Intermediate Driver" is always there.

When I go to re-install this driver, it will sometimes install but the (!) is always there - other times it says the device is not inserted or present (thats when its not in device manager)

I don't know what to do here.... could the hardware be loose? How would I go about checking that inside the laptop (Dell Inspiron N5030)...

I do not think its just broken hardware as the laptop did this in the past, was fixed and than did it again a few times... but, I can't seem to get it workiy people asking the user to paste certain info from their system or in device manager... not sure if that'd help or what info or how to grab it for you.... I'm just really wanting to get this done with.

I sincerely appreciate all the help and info so far.

Also, I just stood up with the laptop, while emptying my recycle bin of a bunch of files - many gigs - and "Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter" (!) appeared back in the device manager which I had open.... so, either freeing the space or physically moving the computer are the only two things I can think of that made that change occur.

That said, when last this went out permanently, I had the computer in my hands - so maybe the network card is loose inside the laptop casing? Could this be it? How do I know what it looks like to tighten it?

Any thoughts? I feel like this info should help... maybe... haha.. ugh.....

PCI Bus 12, Device 0, Function 0 - that is what my "Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter" (!) reads when I click properties.

Does code 12 not mean that I just need free resources but I need to free up PCI Bus 12? (Not as they are both '12' but as it says this device is located in PCI Bus 12.

If so, how to do this?

I'm really trying to just throw out there anything that can help..... I'm so stuck!

Lastly, I have found this information pertaining to my situation on another forum, but, I can not figure out how to make the 2 things happen they suggest, which is turning off IEEE1394 in BIOS (its not in my BIOS, I have no firewire).

Also, it was suggested ...."I've the same problem with the Atheros wireless network adapter - which worked under win8 btw.

I found that disabling the two O2micro OZ711MP1 MemoryCardBus-Controllers solved the problem for the boot process. If I enable these O2micro controllers afterwards everything is working fine, even the Atheros adapter. But booting with the O2micro controllers enabled will result in a nonfunctional Atheros adapter."

Though I have been unable to figure out where to locate these settings to enable/disable.

ok im assuming you been trying to use most current driver. try uninstalling current driver and installing older driver version 8 link below

also card could be loose like you said. try opening device manger and leaving it open wiggle your computer around to see if device is appearing disappearing on you while moving computer around.

When I shake it I see no direct change.... also, it will not let me uninstall through the install or revo as it says the device is not present so it can not... I assume if I can (unbeknownst to me HOW) get it to appear again in DevMan it'd uninstall any which way I tried... trouble is doing that....

I've got the older driver ready to go, if I can get it to see the card....

SO, if anyone happens upon this with the same issue, follow these instructions to remove the keyboard and tighten the antenna for the wifi mini card.

thats what did it. The laptop has been bumped a few times over the years, obviously enough so that the antenna became loose - giving it a code 12, not enough resources, I suppose as it was not fully but still partly secured.

I took out the entire card just to clean it though I am not sure that part was necessary.
