Hello guys, I'm planning on building a small budget itx based NAS and stuck on component decision; can't seem to decide between the Athlon 5350+Asrock ITX Board and the Asrock Q1900-ITX powered by a J1900 CPU. The Athlon combo will cost $35 more here and has a higher cpubenchmark score, in the 2500; the J1900 costs less, uses less power and has a benchmark score of 1900. Initially I was gonna go with the 5350, but emby media server has a workaround to use Intel Quick Sync to allow the use of iGPU for transcoding and based on the results people have posted, there is a 35-40% decrease in CPU usage during transcoding. This feature does not work with the iGPU on amd chips. The Athlon CPU is upgradable but at the moment, 5350 is the strongest chip for AM1 boards and with recent AMD talks of moving all new processors, low and high end over to AM4 boards, I'm not sure we'll ever see a new AM1 chip.
Would love to hear what other people think, any input/feedback/advice is appreciated.
P.S. the NAS will be running Openmediavault and will be used as a media server, backup solution and owncloud and unfortunately my budget is very limited($180CND for CPU/Board) so going for server grade equipment is out of the question unless it falls without that budget for CPU/Board. Thanks again
