athlon 64 3200+ vs 4000+

I know 4000+ is way faster, but people sed they've been able to overclock the 3200+ up to 2.7ghz, that's a lot higher than 4000+'s unclocked core speed. Would the 3200+ be faster than a 4000+ when it's overclocked? sure cache is still higher in the 4000+, but vs 2.7ghz how far apart are the two chips?

If I had to guess, I'd say that the 3200+ at 2.7 ghz would be better than a stock 4000+. Not a gigantic difference, I'd have to imagine, but should still be better.

Depends what cooling you put on the chip. You probably won't get 2.7 on a stock cooler. You might try at looking at the Opteron chips, which are identical to the A64's but overclock better as they are designed to work in servers, and so need to be stable. Unfortunately the latest Opys don't seem to be doing as well.

yeah, i was wondering, cuz the 4000+ is more than double the cost of a 3200+, so just wondering if i could basically get the 4000+'s performance for the price of a 3200+. just something i was thinking about when i was trying to overclock my 3200+.

I have my 3200 @ 2.5 ghz. It is about on par with the 4000 in most benchmaks. That is with stock cooling, and @ 1.475v (I'm not sure what stock voltage is anymore). It's been running @ that for 1/2 a year now, with F@H providing the load 24/7.
It will go faster, but I need a b etter hsf.
For right now, 2.5 is fine.
BTW, these chips OC better as they age. When I first got the chip, it wouldn't go past 2.45. Then it would, a little. Now it will do 2.55, but I dont like the heat to stay over 50c, even @ 100% load.

Does it heat up really easily when u overclock. MY A64 venice is at about 30C with 2.0ghz, would it jump up to 50C if i overclocked it to 2.5ghz like that.
