Athlon 64 FX-53 poor CPU score?

Greetings,

I recently purchased a new computer with an Athlon 64 FX-53 Processor installed on an Asus SK8V motherboard. I ran 3DMark03 and got great graphics scores, but only scored a 245 on the CPU function as compared to Tom's 799. Is there some setting that I might need to change, should I contact the computer's manufacturer?

I ran the test as Tom did, with the default options and using DirectX9.0a. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Forgot to add that I'm also using 1Gig of Kingston 400DDR RAM.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers? Also, do you have a link to the benchmark score?

Is cool&quiet enabled (do FX's even support that btw?). some synthetic benchmarks can give you weird results if C&Q is enabled, because they use clock frequency to determine the score. When the bench is started, clock frequency could still be low, and if the clock is determined at that moment you will get a nonsensical result. C&Q takes a few ms to speed up the cpu when you are running something cpu intensive. This is nothing to worry about btw.., your real world apps will still run full speed.

Again, thank you for your reply! About Cool & Quiet, I'm not sure as I've never heard of this before. Where do I check to see if it's enabled?

Maybe I'm not reading something right, but it says you have an Athlon 64 2400, not an Athlon 64 FX-53. That's a major difference. Also, an Athlon FX-53 should run at 800Mhz FSB, not 200 as it says.

looks like you need to get up to speed on things Trifler, you must be new to athlons. 2400mhz is the correct speed for a fx-53. And the 200fsb is also correct. 800mhz is the hypertransport frequency which the processor uses to connect to the System.

you should do more research or stop reading marketing ads before making incorrect post like that.

And for the user with the processor, check to see that you have all the updated drivers. graphics and chipset drivers!

I knew that 2400mhz was the correct speed, but it is not the correct name. Based on the way that it is presented, it looks like what's listed on his specs is supposed to be the name of the processor.

check for C&Q in the bios. you may also want to download the latest drivers for this at AMD's site, go here:

Thanks for the info. P4Man! Using a document about how to enable C&Q from AMD's website, I checked and mine isn't on, though, so it can't be that. So I'm still not sure what's causing such low scores. However, in thinking about it, should I really be too concerned? If the graphics score is fine and games run smoothly, it's probably just a simple error in reporting something, right?...I hope.

You need to change your settings before running the benchmark. You should setup for maximum performance, not high quality. You should be able to more than double all of those bungholio marks.
