but the duron overclocks better
if you want to overclock you can probably get better perfromance out of the duron 800
If not, the tbird 800 will perfrom better by a significant margin, check out some of Tom's benchmarks, they tell the story.

Moreover (considering we're talking about an athlon classic) you'd have a better upgrade path with a Duron because it's a socket-a processor...

they're the same "speed". if you're not talking about the altlon classics you'll get better performance out of the athlon. from an athlon classic you'd probably (this is just my guess) get about the same benchmarks as the duron.

I concur on that. A classic Athlon will perform about the same as a Duron at the same clock speed. Classic outperforms it just a lil' bit ::fingers are a hair breadth apart::.

If that's the case there is no question and you should go Duron. The upgrade path is rather extensive. I believe even into the next range of DDR boards.
