I have a couple of questions about a processor upgrade.

Firstly, is it easy to upgrade the processor? As in, do I just take the old processor out and slot in the new one and away I go?

Secondly, I have an AM2 slot mobo and I was wondering which CPU I should go with, the X2 6000+, which has 3.0ghz and a 1mb cache, or the X2 7750 Black Edition, which has 2.70ghz but a 1mb L2 cache and 2mb L3 cache. They are both the same price, and you can check them out here:

Which one would be the better CPU to get? More GHZ or a larger cache size?

A CPU upgrade is very straight forward to do, but if you only have an AM2 mobo and not a AM2+ you'll not have the option of the 7750. Let us know more info so we can better assist you.

I have the Asus M2N-E mobo and my needs will be primarily for gaming.

And yeah, I realized after that the 7750 is just for AM2+. Oh well. What's the best CPU for the AM2 boards then?

AM2+ is backwards compatible with AM2 as long as your mobo provides a BIOS update for the new CPUs. I just upgraded my X2 4200+ to a 7750 and kept my old AM2 board.

Performance wise they are probably pretty close, though you can overclock the 7750 a little more than the 6000+.

Cool, thanks a lot for the info.

Does anybody know if the Asus M2n-E mobo is AM2+ compatible with a BIOS upgrade? I couldn't find anything on their website so I'm guessing no...

Athlon X2 7750 OC'ed to 3.6 GHz will be alot better than any default Phenom.
If you have a N-Force mobo, the Athlon X2 7750 BE is the best choise!!!

Your a bit optimistic since most 7750's only make it to 3.3ghz.
