Athlon X3 450 vs FX 4300

Hi TH' readers,

Yesterday I bought myself a 750 Ti 2GB as an upgrade from my old HD 5670 512MB. Both cards draw the same power from the PCI slot so it's a great upgrade for a low-power mid-range card. My concern is that the graphics performance may be bottleneck by my old Athlon X3 450. So I was wondering if I should upgrade to a FX 4300 to increase the graphics performance for my new graphics card.

Note: the X3 450 has a defunct 4th core; so that rules out the core unlocker.

The FX 4300 is significantly better than the Athlon X3 450 but I suggest at least an FX 6300. The FX 6300 isn't that much more expensive than the 4300. Do you plan on upgrading the motherboard too or do you already have an AM3+ motherboard?

I need to update the bios to install the FX brand.

Is £20 extra worth to buy the 6300 over the 4300. How much performance gains between the two to justify the extra 20 pounds?

In newer games the FX 6300 is 7% to 13% better. But after looking at the prices in the UK I don't think it's worth it to go with the FX 6300 because you will pay 43% more for 13% better performance. In the US the FX 6300 only costs 16% more than the FX 4300.
