Athlon X4 840 vs G3258

Hey guys.I wanna know what do you thinks about this CPU: Kaveri Athlon X4 840.Is it good for 1080p gaming with r7 265?
Is G3258 better than Kaveri Athlon X4 840 ?
I am not going to oc any cpus.Keep that in mind.

the 860k is the way to go since it has 4 cores as appose to the g3258's 2 cores, and it has higher stock speed, although you will get better performance if you overclock, so 860k is the way to go for now

Do NOT get the Athlon, it is old and outdated. The fm2+ socket line is dead. For gaming the G3258 will be MUCH better, on top of that the LGA 1150 socket has a HUGE upgrade path for the future.

If you buy the Athlon you will be stuck with an old, weak and dead CPU with no way to upgrade except to start all over.

Number of cores doesn't mean a thing, currently one Intel core equals like four AMD cores. Comparing chips by core count is idiotic at best.

No, not even close. That setup is mediocre at best and you should stick to medium settings if you want playable fps at 1080p.

The r7 265 is a pretty old and weak graphics card.

If you want to play modern AAA titles at very high settings at 1080p you will at least need an Intel I5 series chip or AMD FX 8xxx series and something like a GTX 960/970 or r9 380/390 or some of the older equivalents.

Get the x4 860k better than 840 plus do NOT get pentiums for gaming 2 cores are not going to handle any modern game the athlon is much better. Plus the r7 265 is a VERY good card for not very demanding gaming. If you can though get the gtx 950 or r7 270

my solo purpouce of the Pentium is to run without gpu as a media mini itx media center and emulation machine (emulation need strong single core performance).

I played the last Batman on it with gtx960 i was geting 30-35 frames, pluged the gtx960 on my fx8230 50-100 frames

The Pentium is a worthless buy for gaming UNLESS you gave a guaranteed budget to upgrade the CPU again within the next 12 months - the only thing it has going for it is its upgrade path full stop.

Paired with a 265 the amd chip is enough - bother 760k & 860k are better buys than the 840 though - I would personally never buy a locked amd chip!

You should be looking at a gtx 950 over the 265 - they should be around the same price.
