During a prime 95 torture test, my socket temp climbs to 44*c which is fine. It seems the fan speed is tied to this reading.

What I am confused about is the different readings hwmonitor shows. I understand that the program does not read package or core temps right so I ignore those. The reading I pay attention to are the TMPIN readings. I can confirm that tmpin 0 is socket temp and tmpin 2 is motherboard temp. I believe TMPIN 1 is core temp because this reading slowly increased to 55*C and stayed there during a 1 hour test. after the test the temp dropped to 32 c. AMD OD showed thermal margin at 47*C.

Does anyone know what tmpin 1 represents?

And lets say that is core temp, would 55*C be a safe load temp?

here are my specs

MB: MSi A68hm grenade
CPU: Athlon 860k
Cooler- CM hyper TX3
GPU- Xfx r7 250x
PSU antec vp450

Ant help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know about the TMPIN 1 but 55c is a really good load temp. I generally use Prime 95 to get the CPU toasty and use Speedfan (free program) for temps. try that to see

Thanks for the response! Speed fan displays 242*c which is obviously wrong. AMD really made it tricky to read temps on these kaveri chips. I looked at the data sheet and the cpu does indeed have a temp sensor used ONLY for PROCHOT and Thermal trip, so maybe it's possible that hw monitor sees that reading. That particular reading is different than what the programs and amd od reads.

Really dont get too caught up on temps unless its thermal throtting. My smaller lan party system that has an Athlon 640 ran at 100c for awhile just to prove to some friends temps dont matter until it thermal throttles
