Athlon XP 64 question

hey all. I got an asus K8V deluxe for my new athlon 64 system but I think I'm going to wait on getting an athlon 64 cpu. Is there anyway I could put a different processor in that mobo other then a socket 768 or whatever athlon 64?

Please let me know I dont wanna pay 410 dollars for a 3400+ that dont run that great.

Buy the Athlon64 3200+, or the 2800+ if you're really on a budget. The extra cache doesn't help much, but if you OC your chip a little, like HT to 220, then you'll see the massive increase of performance on the 3200+.

I currently have a Athlon64 3200+, I got it running at 2300mhz 24/7 at only 1.6Vcore, so it's running under 45C all the times.

Let me see if I got this right ... you bought the mobo, before deciding what CPU to get? That's original!

Anyway, your mobo can only "accept" Socket754 A64s. This means either the 2800+, 3000+, 3200+ or the 3400+. Probably the end of the line for this socket will be the 3700+. I didn't quite understand your comment on the "3400+ that dont run that great", but that's about the best CPU that you will be able to use before upgrading your mobo!

If you simply meant that it is too expensive for your budget, then as others suggested, you can get then 3000+ which offers very good performance for its money!

No ... you didn't understand me right at all. I got my mobo wanting to build an athlon 64 system. However longhorn aint going to be out till 2006 and until then the 64 bit instruction set wont run.

I simply dont want to get an expensive 3400+ for bad cost/proformence ratio. I am thinking about getting a 3200+ but wanted to know first if I could get a CPU other then an A64 to fit in that mobo.

well youll get ot use 64bit apps near the end of this year with XP 64 bit comes out, you dont have to wait for Longhorn.

i als think youd be fine just getting a 2800+ and then later on upgrading to like a 3700+ if you want.

Well I agree with u tamat. Wait untel more apps are around. For the 64 bit systems. For I had to look at them the last few months.

I ended up buying a Pro Star Intel 3.4ee laptop. Looking into useing the computer when I go out.

Wow! 3400+ not that good, the A64 3400+ is one of the fastest CPU on the market for gaming, and it's much cheaper than Athlon FX. I really don't understand your statement.

You seem a little confused about the whole 64 bit, 32 bit thing.

Regardless of whether 64 bit applications are out yet, the A64 3400 runs 32 bit apps at the kinds of speeds everyone above me has been saying (damn near fastest on the market).
