athon 64 overclocking question

Is the Athlon 64 2800+ unlocked? If so can I just overclock it in bios like the unlocked bartons?

The multipliers in A64s are locked. The only way to oc, is the same as with Intel, up the fsb.

It's unlocked downward...meaning that 8x down to 4x (depends of motherboard) will be open....this only means that you have to buy faster RAM and a motherboard with locking AGP/PCI. That means getting NForce3 250 is essential.

In the silicon you refer to, as any buffoon would realize, would only allow the selection of multipliers up to and including the max, which is a German word for no. Being an above average intellectual 2 year old, I would recommend a board with an AGB lock.

thanks for the links, I understand now. I think I'll wait till the nforce3 250 chipset based boards come out. Than i'll build my athlon64 system.

I don't know when they will hit the street! But my choice would be the MSI K8N Neo, the overclocking seems amazing with nForce3 250 boards!
