I use ATI HD 4850 and have trouble at crysis. Fraps indicates 17 fps even the resolution is 1024*768 (high detail) My system components seems to be quite enough to have smooth gameplay. I installed catalyst 8.7. What may the problem be???

When you have three sticks of RAM does it still run in dual channel? I would say your RAM speed is holding ya back. I have 4 gigs and at times Crysis can use over 2 of that!

Check out your catalyst and make sure your not forcing AA on or something like that as well.

NO, rams run in flex mode. What about taking one of them out, to make them run dual channel? I will try this. I said before but let me say again: No difference what setting at ccc, crysis runs at 17-25 fps all the time. it is 30-35 if I set resolution as 800*600.

crysis performs strangely on my system too. at 1680x1050, there seems to be no difference in fps whether i run on medium, high, or very high graphics! very odd...

There is definitely something wrong there...how do your other games play? have u benchmarked your pc or put it through a stress test yet to see if everything is working properly?

how can we do that ahslan? we can use 3d 2006 or something like that for benchmarking as far as I know. what is stress test?

theres a program called Prime95 that stress tests your CPU and ram...its mainly used for testing overclocked computers but if there is something wrong with you cpu or ram, most likely prime95 will fail...(btw, when using prime95, a stable system usually means it hasnt failed the test for about 6-8 hours...)

Seems like a good description of a CPU restriction to me.

ATi struggle in Crysis?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Very simple... when u select 8xAA in crysis.

For ati it loads 8xMSAA

and on nvdia it loads 4xMSAA & 8xCSAA.. its Nvdia trick... they spend a lot of money to make game developers support NV

You will find a file called FSAAProfilesDX10.txt and FSAAProfile.txt in config folder.

Delete both files and then you will notice, both cards will use MSAA

After deleting that file, you will not see 8xq 16x or 16xq

Even for Nvidia will only get 2x, 4x, 8x, which is real 8x MSAA.

now compair with ATI.

Here is the link http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/14519-ati-struggle-crysis.html

when that file is there. when you select 8x it lodes 8x msaa for ATI and lodes 4x msaa for Nvidia....

not only crysis... even in CMR grid you have simular file....

It's a CPU Bottleneck.

Read this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254053-33-upgrading-x1800xl-what (i made a homebrew review, but it's very informative, lol)

It will show you that Crysis is very "Mhz" demanding with it's physics engine (and all physycs enabled games actually, since if u don't have a PPU they will toast your CPU/extra cores, lol). Now, try getting the "physics" on off/low and run it, also u can OC your CPU to ~2.6Ghz or do both.

Esop!
