I'll try to explain it the best i can so bare with me. I just bought a connect 3d hd4850 from a good friend of mine. He said that with the reference cooler the card will get a little hot while gaming but i didnt think nothing about it. He said i need to buy a good aftermarket cooler if i want decent temps.
All was just like he said, with the reference cooler the temps excedeed 100 degrees celsius with tha fan at 80%, and was very very loud also. I then bought a akasa neo vortex cooler and i had that friend mount it up for me. The problem now is that the temps didn't go down at all...i still get over 100 degrees regularly while playing. It isn't loud anymore but it doesnt cool the card right, so i was wondering what the problem was. Can it be it isnt mounted right?
One thing to note: just under the graphic card i have a sound card installed and there is very litttle space bettween the two. Can that impact my cooling that much?? I dont have another free pci slot to move the sound card.
The case has only one side fan 12cm at 1200rpm.

+1 for what conumdrum said. You have to consider total ventilation, airflow, and cooling.

Did you mean your pc case has only one case fan? Does it have other fans mounted in other locations? What pc case do you have?

Yes i only have a side fan in my case set on medium. The case unfortunately is a generic one...crapola. I was thinking of getting a antec 900 two case. Will that put an end to my temp problems? I thought the aftermarket cooler on the 4850 should have at least cut the temps by 10 15 degrees at the very least.

There has to be a way to draw in cool air and exhaust hot air. The hot air generated by the cpu, video card, and other components has to be removed from the case. Otherwise the heat will just build up inside the case. If your case only has one fan, then you should consider buying a case and fans that will provide good ventilation, airflow, and cooling. The Antec 900 case is very popular with gamers and often recommended.
