ATI 4850

Is the 4850 still a viable video card?

I have the chance to get an XFX 4850 1GB for very cheap. I currently have a very old GeForce 7600 GS.

I really haven't kept up with graphic card technology but I am guessing that this 4850 is light years ahead of my 7600.

With that said is it still a decent card, I notice that they have 4870 and 4890's and soon 5xxx.

or wait for the 5 series, and the prices might drop even more ^^

The release of 5xxx series card from ATI will result to cheaper cards of older generation. That is if you can wait for a few days.

its a hell of a lot better than the 7600 gs .

Expect your frame rates to be 2 - 4 times higher on the same quality settings

but then how cheap is cheap? , and what is your monitor resolution ?

A 4850 is fine on a 19 inch or even 22 inch 1680 x 1050 screen

Believe it or not I am running a 23 inch at 1920x1080 and a 19 inch at 1440x900 from the 7600 GS
