Ok so i bought a new rig a couple of days ago and i decided to get two 4870x2 and crossfire them. Then is when my problems started. Whenever i try and play something i get the feeling (as i haven't checked numbers yet) that when i do with crossfire enabled i don't get better fps than when i play with crossfire disabled. For example Modern Warfare 2, at some places i was really getting my fps dropping below 30 as i could feel the sluggish movement. It's not the PSU as far as I can tell coz I don't have any other kind of problems and I can keep on playing for hours, it is the non-existent performance on Crossfire that worries me.
I came from a clean win7 ultimate x64 install, uninstalled Catalyst, using driver cleaner, re-installing latest Catalyst (9.11) but nothing. On CrossfireX tab at Catalyst control panel i get only a box to tick or untick which enables or disables Crossfire right? I also read somewhere that on taskbar you should get a Crossfire icon, is that correct? I only have the ATI icon from Catalyst. Also I've linked the cards with one bridge, do I need to use a second one aswell? I used 3D Mark 06 to see if i am hallucinating and the results where dissapointing.
Crossfire
3DMark Score 15769 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score 6 K
HDR/SM3.0 Score 7 K
CPU Score 5 K
Non-Crossfire
3DMark Score 15649 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score 6 K
HDR/SM3.0 Score 7 K
CPU Score 5 K
Also Everest reports the 1st pci-e as x16 and the second (where my 2nd card is installed) as x4, dunno if this is of any importance.
I really am at a loss here, any help would be really really appreciated! My specs are listed below.
Intel core i7 1156 2.8GHz
Mobo Asus P7P55D LE
2x GSKILL 2GB 1600MHz DDR3
2x Asus 4870x2
PSU Thermaltake 700Watt SLI-certified (although i am using crossfire)
