Ok, 3 quick questions:

I always hear new ati video cads have audio over HDMI when using the adapter, so:

1) Isn't a DVI to HDMI cable the same as an adapter and an HDMI to HDMI cable?
2) Any of you have your card connected to a display via a DVI to HDMI cable and still get audio from it?
3) does anyone knoy if the new budget cards (46X0) will have 7.1 LPCM via HDMI?

I'm asking this since I'm getting a new receiver for my HTPC and want high fidelity audio via HDMI, any recommendations for reading?

If I should post this thread somewhere else, please tell me where.

I have my 4870 hooked up through HDMI and it was a PITA to setup.

The box comes included with a DVI-HDMI adapter and from my experience it is necessary to use that adapter along with a standard HDMI cable to get audio (as opposed to using a DVI-HDMI cable).

Also it was somewhat a PITA to setup with my receiver (results may vary?); but once I got it working properly it is extremely gratifying!

thanks man, I wonder if I can get in touch with you if I ever have trouble with the setup.

Two more questions:

from your point of view, Was it really worth it?
Have you actually tried to make the same connection without the adapter (since I already have that cable)?
