ATI becoming an elitist gaming card!

Nvidia are holding up stronger than ever in the lower and middle end of the graphics market. With the fx 5200 being the only real choice in the lower end and the fx 5600 dominating the middle market ATI has really left itself out of the ball game. Don't be mistaken the 9600 is a very good card but the extra price being asked and its below average performance compared to the 5600 ultra, seems to be leaving it as the "I wish there were some 9500's still about" card. So Nvidias high profile and big punch still has a strong grip on 75% of the video market. My question being should ATI be catering more for the middle and lower end gaming market or should they continue to put all their eggs in one basket to outperform at the very top where 5% of sales take place?

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

Actually the ATI cards are elitist. For people looking for good cards.

The FX5200 is a waste of money for ANYONE (GF4tis are a much better choice), the FX5900 is overpriced in N.Am., and the FX5600s are only good when in the Ultra R.2 format. The R9600 may fail against and FX5600U however the R9600PRO bests it in just as many categories as the R.2 can win. And the PS performance diff. is in the R9600P's favour.

Anywhoo, despite the fact that this is a very troll like post, I had to respond just to get my fingers used to typing in this forum.

In any case, wait for the new cards in Sept. they should show a different roadmap to the future.

Typical ATI fanboy didnt read the post just started jibbering some nonesense how if ya dont get a 9700 ya may as well not have a video card. Also this is a serious post about ATI only catering for high end video cards. As for the fx5200 being useless for anyone well that just shows your troll like mentality. And as for the 5600fx only being good in r2 check the price/performance comparison with ATI s budget 9600 range.

"..nonesense how if ya dont get a 9700 ya may as well not have a video card.."

can you point to the place where he says this?

your post indicates you did not even read the post rramjet.
Sad since you accuse him of not reading yours.

and your bias does indeed show when you compare the fx5600

ultra r.2 vs the 9600 instead of the equiv 9600 pro

I think the only real lower-end choice is the Ti4200.

And I'd disagree with you about the 9600 vs 5600. I think the 9600 has alot to offer, even at a slightly higher price point... the AA is better and the shaders are way more powerful.

Would be nice to see the 9500's again, though. But I'll be interested in seeing how much they want for a 9800SE when they become available...

Are you frickin stupid? You can get a Sapphire 9600 PRO for 136!!! ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX DOLLARS! A BBA one isn't too much more, but Sapphire is a fine brand.

A 5600 ultra rev. 2 costs more than that idiot.

Just cause nVidia's selling more cards right now dosn't mean the cards are better. I would go ATI over nVidia in the low-mid, to enthusiast segment. The only place nVidia dominates is in the low-end segment, with its Ti4200 for 80 bux. 5200 is not an option. 5600 is for morons. 5600 Ultra Rev. 2 is good but overpriced. 5900 is overpriced and can anyone say... "cheating"?.

Did you ever think of the geforce 4 4200 or Radeon 9100? I would take those cards anyday over the 5200.PERIOD.

So Nvidias high profile and big punch still has a strong grip on 75% of the video market
You want to provide some links for that....Maby something to back up your claim?

Alright, huge reward for anyone who makes a sentinel virus that tracks and attacks trolls who post here. Just make it explode the crap out of their really cool 5200 and 5600 that "beats everything else in that catagory," or maybe just their monitor...

LoL I love it, so many fun people in this forum.

Cmmon guys i'm trying to intiate some inellectual debate here. The 9600pro is still hovering in that indecisive price range where ya can't help but throw the extra cash for a 9700 or somthing similar. This leaves the question are the 9600 models with cores of 325 and ram at 400mhz an option when the fx5600 is at a similar price range with faster ram. Because in my opinion the 9600pro and fx5600 ultra is a dud Graphics catagory when the others loom just above. Things might be different in other countries but here in Iraq the resolution is real good through the sites of my AK. No seriously Atis performance is not the issue iam having problems with, it is all these damn fanboys wit pissy ass capguns, and not seeing that Ati are not catering for a large market section. Now i must meditate to jebus like homer does.

I defnitely have to reply to this.

In the UK a 9600pro can be purchased for about £140 a 9700pro is still hovering around the £250 mark, that a 50% price increase. The 9600pro is as about indecisively priced as a 5600Ultra.

The 9600pro and 5600ultra is not a Dud graphics category as it accounts for about 30% of known sales of graphics cards(not those particular card but that brand).

The only reason that the low end graphics have such a high market percentage is PC Box market. I've sold medion PCs for almost a year in my present job and they've been shipped with a GF4MX440, a Radeon9000 and are now shipping with the GF FX5200 and each change has been followed with a new DX-X sticker to push extra sales.

ATI does cater for the larger market areas. It was the first company to introduce a DX8 GC for less than £100, the 9000 non-pro was selling retail for about £60. nVidia may now have the cheapest DX9 but purely because ATI know that you can't get a PROPER DX9 card for under £100 and haven't bothered to try and tarnish their name. Once the technology is there than ATI will introduce a DX9 Radeon budget card or might introduce one to compete with the FX5200 but there's little difference between them now.

You are trying to compare GCs with their physical speed values? Everyone knows these count for Jack as it is the efficiency of the GPU, the pipelines, etc that make a good card and not it's speed. Try saying that an Intel 2.0GHzA chip is faster than an XP2000+ which runs at I believe 1.7GHz and see what response you get.

You have not tried to initiate an intellectal debate as your sheer bias towards nVidia and your lack of undestanding towards how a graphic card and their sales actually work prove.

And following your sexist and Biggotist remark I won't make any further replies to a fool like yourself.
Edited by Gastrian on 08/28/03 02:45 PM.

Dude, are you REALLY from Iraq?? I wouldn't have guessed, I thought you were russian when I saw a link to a Russian language site that you posted. Or was that DDRSDRAM?

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

To put it bluntly, no it isn't. You loaded the topic so heavily in favour of Nvidia and labelled anyone who argued for ATI a fanboy.

Now that's just not cricket.

Hopefully he's got drink in his monitor and blown it up.

Trolls show a lack of respect to both computers and people through their ignorance. It makes you wonder how they ever learned to switch their computers on in the first place.

Also if we need any further proof to his trolling ways, in this thread he's in Iraq in the "The FINAL word on Nvidia's CRAP..." thread he's in Australia. The whole point about the internet is that it's available all round the world so why do you need to be in two different countries to post in 2 different topics.
Edited by Gastrian on 08/28/03 03:10 PM.

Like in Final Destination...!

And the only nVidia worth buying is the 4200, which has been firmly established. All the rest either suck or are overpriced, or both. Plus, there's whole cheating thing. It's too bad trolls are blind, otherwise they might be able to SEE THE OBVIOUS.

nVidia cheated on me so I left her for ATi. ATi's hotter anyway...
