ATI Catalyst 9.7 and Nvidia GeForce 190.38 Drivers in Windows 7

There u go :)

Overall let me say once again that replacing Windows Vista with Windows 7 won’t become a panacea for super performance and won’t deliver free tens of percents to you. Moreover, it would be really strange if it did. Yes, Windows 7 seems to be nicer to work with, however, it hardly has anything to do with performance in contemporary games. We don’t see any serious reasons that could require mass transition of gaming platforms from Windows Vista to Windows 7, although the new Microsoft OS does look very successful. Many users will surely like it, but “increased gaming performance” is very unlikely to become a reason for transition.

"It seems to us that both companies are extremely optimistic about the possible performance gain: they believe that by simply upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 can in some cases provide 10-20% performance boost and sometimes even more than that. Well, we have to check things out ourselves, we can’t just take everything for granted that is why we decided to undertake an investigation of our own. We used the officially available legal copy of the new operating system: Windows 7 RC1 installed onto our primary testbed"

Just read the article. Im certain alot of what we will eventually see in W7 isnt showing here at all. The advantages arent put in the games or the drivers yet, so too early to callIm somewhat disappointed they came to this conclusion without also mentioning nothing is truly out to take advantage of things yet.
It will change when drivers and the DX11 model is used more in all facets. As alot of it can be done on any DX10 game. Overall, Im critical of them, making something sound bad before its even being used

What I find laughable about their attitudes about how ATI and nVidia are just promoting W7 and simply making things up, is they actually dont know anything about DX11. Also, look at their HAWX findings. Its supposedly done in DX10.1. Compare their findings to these

That link shows a 4890 handling a 285 in HAWX with DX10.1, and trust me, the writer is not a ATI fan at all, but hes a good thourough bencher, and I read him, tho he is hard on ATI
If games arent set to use DX11 in form of patch or ground up, then youll see no difference except maybe with DX11 cards themselves

PS Keep in mind that using DX10.1 means using 4xAA you have 1 less pass, or a full cycle the card doesnt have to do, and is why in those graphs, without the 4xAA being used , the 4890 isnt doing as well. Its basically free AA

in windows 7 build 7100 ,with the new 190 driver i went from a constant 110 fps on cod4 to a pathetic 45ish. i run cod4 @ 1920x1080 4xaa 16af on a q6600 @ 3.4ghz 4gigs of ram and a gtx 285 oc to 705/1566/1296 and a 8800gts as ppu. im sticking to
nvidia drivers 186.18 untill they fix the new drivers

Yeah i agree with u,they have to test with the RTM version atleast, then the results were more accurate.
Btw JD,plz explain more about what u said about DX 10.1 in the 2 last sentences ,i didn't get what u are saying, plz explain more thanks :)

OK, DX10.1 creates a shortcut if you will, that allows for 4xAA to be passed just once, instead of twice, so essentually, its only doing half the work getting the same results. If you dont have AA on, theres no advantage, and their (xbitlabs) findings almost show this, yet they claim its on, whereas in my link, it shows great advantages, where the 4890 is only losing maybe 10-15% fps using 4xAA, while the 285 is losing 40% fps without DX10.1, and using 4xAA

perhaps i did a bad driver installation, i dont know. from the info's there isnt much of a framerate increase so im going to stick with my current driver. if it aint broken why fix it. when im not gaming im folding so that driver is useless for me atm. sorry for broken english, took oxys for back pain.

Thanks :)
