It will be called Radeon 9800XT

Written by The Inquirer
ATI had two names for this technology from the beginning. One was Radeon 9900 PRO the only step left for this generation of cards, and the other the Radeon 9800XT. . . From the very beginning, ATI decided to name the re-spin of the chip based on its performance. So it didn't feel it could call it the Radeon 9900 PRO if it wasn't acting as one. . . The Radeon 9800XT will end up at 425MHz+ for the chip and 700MHz for memory and there are likely to be DDR I and DDR II cards, it appears

I've heard that the 9600 on-pro and pro models are beating their 9500 partners in both internet gaming and on DX9 games.

Why choose the name "XT"? "XT" is the name of an Intel chip that was made more tha 15 years ago.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Probably for eXTreme.

I think we will start to see some confusion in ATI naming scheme... Do this NON PRO X card beat this Y PRO one? And how about the XT Z that have performance between the bla bla PRO and thingy NON PRO...

When will the "x-treme" marketing scheme R.I.P.? It's now old and lame. Surely someone can oome up with a more creative name than relying on the olde "x-treme scheme"

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

what chip might that be?

To my knowledge intel did not make a chip called the XT...

However ibm did make a computer called the XT...but it used the intel/amd (also made by other companies) 8088 cpu and 8087 co-pro...

XT sounds kind of like SE, gamers with little hardware knowledge will buy the SE thinking they've gotten a steal on an XT, see how sucky the card is, and never buy another ATI product again. Yes, that's how bad confusing names are.

But the R9500Pro is obviously an inferior build.IT spontaneously combusts when overclocked.

Or maybe it's the user. He just burst into Flames, I don't know WTF Happened!

Either way ATi wins because the 9600 Pro is a better build that costs less TO build.

nVidia cheated on me so I left her for ATi. ATi's hotter anyway...

the 9600pro isnt better, because it has half the vertex and pixel shaders

its a full blown 9700, with 128bit memory

like GW said, believe what you want
