Can we expect the higher end ATI cards (at least the 9800 pro and non-pro) to drop in price when the 9800XT arrives in a few weeks?

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

Thats the usual way things happen yes.
The 9800XT takes the top spot, and the older cards shuffle down the scale.

At that time its a great idea to pick up a slightly older model for less like a R9700 or R9800.

This is interesting. This time ATi is not doing a full restructuring of their cards, and so what's out now, goes down a level because nothing is here to replace it. Hmm, R9800PRO at 250$? FX5900s are worth jack if that's the case.

One thing's for sure- if the 9800 pro does drop to $250, i WILL get one, even though i have a powerful enough 9500 pro at the moment.

I have a feeling the 9700pro will be phased out, just like the 9500pro. The 9800np is just as fast and would fill its place nicely as I can't see the price of a 9700pro dropping much more....

The 9800xt will fill the 9800pros spot. The 9800 pro slowly go down to what you can get a 9700pro for now and the 9800np will replace the 9700pro and be a lot cheaper!

Just my 2p....

The release of the next version of the R9600 (the RV360), whatever it will be called, will push down the price of the R9600. Until then it will just have the normal rate of radioactive decay it has shown until now.

The release of the R9800XT will have less of an effect than that.

As for he R9200, unless there is a suitable replacement then it will also just slowly drop over time.

As far as i'm concerned, there is a suitable replacement for the 9200 but it happened to precede it by some time...the 9100 (or 8500 if you will)!
