ATI Radaeon 4890 overheating problem

My computer has been randomly shutting down when I have WoW open. Sometimes it doesn't but usually it will within 5-10 minutes of starting the game. I was finally able to locate the cause in the Event Viewer log and the log said the computer shut down because the graphics card over heated. Is there anything I can do to fix this (I've cleaned out the case and the card with a can of compressed air) or do I just need to buy a new card? For what it's worth, it seems to just be the card because the program I use to monitor the temps of the quadcore processor never reports cpu temps over 70C.

Turn Vsync on for wow. That might fix the problem.Do you have same problem with other games or just wow?? Is your card oced hard??Run furmark for 20 minutes or more and see the temps. You are safe as long as it remains below 85C.

I don't play any other games on the computer so I'm not sure if it will happen with other games. It'c not OCed at all. But I ran furmark and it started off at 99C and kept steady around 110-114C....so that's definitely too hot. I'm guessing my only solution is a new card? Everything else seems to be operating at safe temperatures.

Have you looked at the card itself and checked for dust. A large buildup of dust can cause this.

What case do you have? Tell me about the airflow in the case. Is there another PCI card directly below the GPU that is blocking the fan's airflow? Take pictures if you can.

Its hot as hell...yeah try cleaning your gpu heatsink.Add some high RPM case fan on the side panel to blow air directly on the card.I don't think its safe to run the card unless you can bring down the temps.
