Ati radeon 4850 Problem

Hi , I got an Ati radeon 4850 which is artifacting , I was fixing it by reinstalling the drivers , but not it doesnt work anymore , some help? My pc : amd 4200+ , ati radeon 4850 , 2 gb ram . Is it the PSU?

it's an old card. probably dying. the heat sink and fan are clear of dust build up? and did you ever take the heatsink and fan off to clean off and replace the old thermal paste?

Probably not. A friend of mine was having massive artifacting on their HD 4850; mostly when normally loading Windows 7, but also had some issues in Safe Mode. I popped my HD 7450 in place of it, & the artifacting disappeared completely.

Their issue was simply the card going bad: it was 4-5 years old, & it was installed in a Dell Studio XPS 435mt (the one with the custom Dell mobo, & the sole PCIe x16 slot puts the video card facing the bottom of the case with maybe less than an inch of clearance).

I'm assuming you probably picked the card up used -- despite having that much RAM & the heavier-duty memory bus, its architecture is at least 2 generations behind the current cards (i.e. 7850). So, if you put it in another PC & you're still getting artifacts -- or you put another card in its place & don't get any -- chances are the card is no longer good.

Yes its common with this gpu its not fixable
