Ati radeon 5870's crossfire lag

hi everyone !

My problem i am facing now is that i was using one ati 5870 for like 3 dayz and was playing bf3 and far cry 3 on ultra with no problem. Then i got a 2nd one and put it in crossfire and now i have a lag going on. It is a slight lag when i move fast on drive a car in far cry for instance. This is really bugging me since i was hoping for a beter FPS and performence, not for a lag.

Sounds like a micro stutter issue Do you have the latest drivers? Try the beta ones and see if it helps.

Also what motherboard are you using?

what is your CPU? dual core or old quad core processors aren't fast enough to run 5870 crossfire,crossfire and sli don't share VRAM so 2X5870 1GB crossfire are not 2GB it's effectively 1GB which is bottleneck in some games with maxedout settings.

I know it is a xeon Quad core prossesor should be a server prossesor
i have 12GB ram and an assus moderboard

The weird thing is that i could run the games maxed out on one card and it has a small lag on 2 in crossfire.

I think i have the newest ones tough i onley have the pc for like 6 days and got it from the amd catalyst center if i am not wrong

your processor is underclocked version of i7-920 which isn't fast enough to feed crossfire,single 5870 is faster than 2X5870 crossfire with that CPU,your processor socket is LGA1366 and these processors are out of production almost tow years ago so it is hard to find new one,I suggest to use single 5870 with that CPU,or if you still want to run 5870 CF then get a new Z77 motherboard with ivy-bridge core i5 CPU.

your processor problem isn't because it's old but because it is slowish quad core processor ,some xeon processors are lower clocked than desktop versions and these processors aren't suitable for gaming and general purpose ,I'm not sure if all XEON processors can be overclocked but tom's hardware overclocked one in this article. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/xeon-e5620-overclocking-westmere-ep,2767-2.html
if it is possible to overclock yours, try to overclock it to 3.0GHz if you know how to do that.

I recently discovered i have an "Asus se 6" moderboard.
How about i would just get an i7 985x and put it in mine.
And yeah i love overkill i do not know why but i do. I will also be running an
minecraft server so yeah i would get the i7-3770 just becouse i would have a great cpu
for a long time. So the general thing is i need a cpu wich is a quad core and minimum 3GHZ to run
these cards in crosfire ?

Do you know a cpu wich will be good enough for all gammes and run these 2 GPU's crossfire on an "Asus se 6" moderboard
