I just installed gta iv and when i start the game there is a lot of lag like 1fps, i thing gta don't recognize my gpu. I play Dirt 3, NFS The Run, Hitman Absolution and many more without any lag.
I've searched a lot and didn't find any solution (i've try to reinstall gpu drivers and gta iv, still noting)

Please help!

My PC Specs:
Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4870 Sapphire (512MB)

Yeah GTA IV is a nightmare to run on anything lower than 1GB VRAM. Its a really badly optimised console port. You tried lowering all of the Graphics settings to minimum first?

Check this guide out for tweaking it. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,674715/GTA-4-Making-full-use-of-512-MiByte-graphics-cards/Reviews/

I had a 4870 when GTA4 came out and I had a lot of trouble running it. I did get it running well after playing about with tweaks. Did you check that guide for tweaking it? Don't be expecting things to run on your system just because a youtube video or website says it will. All systems differ.

Your CPU is not the fastest in the world for it either, and you need at least 4GB of RAM.

Unless you are showing me a FRAPS in game FPS screenshot, I have a hard time believing anything from this Lightshot website. Like I said; Don't believe these benchmarks websites or Youtube videos.

i've tried to switch my GPUs, with Nvidia 430 which has worse performanse gta works perfectly, the problem is that the game don't recognize my Radeon HD 4870. I need to force the game to recognize it

it's not about vram, in game settings shows that it needs only 330mb of my 478mb vram, my gpu should work perfectly with gta iv: http://prntscr.com/63j4wc

You said that the game is seeing 478mb of VRAM which means it is recognising your GPU. If it didn;t recognise your GPU, you would not be able to run it to see the 1fps you reported.

Your system is not strong enough to run this game at a good framerate unless you lower the settings and tweak the command line settings like I have already suggested.

I've changed desktop resolution to 1600x1200 and now the game is playable with 50-60 fps on high settings, but widescreen resolutions aren't available :/ I have 22" Wide Screen 1920x1080 Monitor, but in GTA i can change only 4:3 resolutions and the picture looks stretched

Here is SS with Fraps on 1600x1200px: http://prntscr.com/63vgk6
