Geforce GTX 460 is better for the gaming,as i have a thread on about the GTX460.The GTX 460 has more better performance than 5830 due to benchmark results but uses little more power consumption,depends on which memory you use such as the GTX 460 768MB (150 TDP) or the 1GB (160 TDP),while the 5830 uses (175 TDP) and less benchmark and more power supply to use than the GTX460.
As for your power supply,it depends on which card you choose to use and wether you are going to overclock your cpu and overclock your video card,you might want to get 550W power supply to 600W power supply.Some one might be able to answer your question on the power supply,because i use the GTX 460 on the minimum requirements on the power supply along with the overclock cpu and video card and depends on the cpu cooler which may incase need to use a bit more power supply.So there for i use the power supply search from the www.corsair.com
and it also depends on what brand of cpu you are using too.You might be lucky that your power supply should hold all that,as i said some one else should be able to answer about the power supply you have.

the 768 version of the board has an entire SM disabled, costing you roughly 25% performance loss vs the 1gb model. i wouldnt waste my money on the 768 when the 1gb is only like 50 bucks more.

Im an ati amd fanboy, and have done this comparison myself.

Pound for pound the Nvidia beats the 5850 overall. the only real exception is when you get to bust out all the firepower of the dedicated shader cores.

However if you actually jump back to the 4890, you'll find that it outperforms its newer brother on benches, while costing less (though its got a higher wattage i think).

hope this helps

No, the HD5830 can draw more power as it has power regulation issues since it does not shut off power to unused units, so it can often be more power consuming, but the HD5850 is not the same and it consumes less power than the GTX460.

But even then it depends on what GTX460 you're talking about because as mentioned the 1GB model consumes more than both;

Simple breakdown is;

HD5830<GTX460-768<GTX460-1GB=<GTX465<HD5850<GTX470<HD5870<GTX480MHD5970

That's the vast majority of the situations, there are minor variations that pop up here and there (like the ones where the HD5770 can beat and HD5830 or either GTX460) but overall that is the performance situation.

i understand that the 460 may be a little better in benchmarks than the 5830.. but i can say that my 5830 idles at 40 degrees and has NEVER gotten hotter that 61 degrees.. it stays so cool its ridiculous.. IMO it would all depend if you sli or crossfire.. depending on your system.. then i would make the choice of ati or nvidia.. but if its one card your looking at.. obviously the 460.

Are you people against my thread about the power usage on the video cards?
Or are you just being typical smartass?

Here is the website if you want know about the video card power usage,http://www.geeks3d.com/20090618/graphics-cards-thermal-design-power-tdp-database/.Thats gonna hurt ya red wagon.

So your saying that the GTX460 beats the HD5850 overall.........and that the 4890 is also faster than the HD5850? Can I get some of what your smoking?

i wouldnt doubt it.. a 5850 is a dx11 card.. a 4890 vs a 5850 in dx10.. that may be a different story.. my 4890 was a BEAST.. really.. love that card.. but it gets really hot and eventually it fried on me.. after about 6 months only..lol..

Are you ignorant and blind (can't see the graph above?), TDP is not the same as POWER USAGE.

nVidia's TDP may be less, but their usage is higher. Just like the GTX480's TDP is lower than the HD5970, but it's actual usage is higher.

Look at the reviews, the GTX460 consumes more power than an HD5850, and only rarely does better than an HD5830, and even then, that's only when measured as overall power consumption like in the THG tests, not consumption of the card alone as done in the Xbit tests.
