The system will stop responding and then either recover or I will need to do a hard reset. This issue only occurs when at idle core clocks. I have very rarely locked up in graphically intensive environments where the core clocks are at maximum. The card is not overclocked and temperatures are normal.

Alienware Aurora Desktop
Overclocked Intel Core i7 920 (3.2GHz, 8MB Cache)
6GB Triple Channel 1333Mhz DDR3
Single ATI Radeon HD 5970, 2GB GDDR5
Cosmic Black, Alienware Aurora Chassis, 875W PSU

RETURNED

Nice to see it fixed :hello: , the 5850 runs at 1.08-1.09v, amd is using super efficient GPUs on those 5970s, 5870 cores at only 1.049v is just insane even underclocked. btw I dont recommend running Furemark with any dual gpu card, it will hit up to a scary 127C. Most 5870 cores runs at 1.162v, some at 1.13v, so you have even more overvoltage headroom if performence is not sufficient, btw this is not called overvoltage since Amd did lower the votlage on purpose to make the card under 300w limit, so even at 1.162v is not overvoltage hence why manufacturers included the oc tools lmao

I have exactly the same rig and the same problem along with the flakey screen you posted. To have the same problem with multiple similar rigs it has to be something inherent in the 5970s mostly likely software (driver).
