I have just recently bought one of these from Bestbuy($169.99+tax), and have noticed the 2d seems to be slow. Various normal tasks like starting up the web browser, draging windows around while software is being installed, etc..

I have also read on many sites that Doom3 runs poorly. As for RAM I only have 512MB of ram atm, but I am -UnSure- that getting more ram will even fix this problem. -> Mainly because I have read that "This card is not for gamers", which bothers me. This is why I bought a new card in the first place to replace my GeForce FX5200 DDR 128, which can barely run games like Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory. (due to shader reasons i think)

Will getting more RAM fix this?

What other cards, that BestBuy has, should I get instead of this one?
Or just return it and get one elsewhere?
I have been thinking about swapping it for the GeForce 6600 GT card, however have also read a small few various bad reports about that card also.

All I want is a card that will run todays games smoothly, without sacrificing for poor 2d. My GeForce 5200 card ran 2d great as well as all the 3d games I have played over the years. However, now it is out of date and cannot run the higher "shaders" type games.

Also another note, I tested Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory with the Radeon X1300 Pro and it ran so-so, and I am not fully impressed with its preformance. Being so, I am willing to pay another 50 to 75 dollars to get something that WILL run these games -very- well, and not be *obsolete* within a year or so.

Any help is Greatly appreciated!

lets see x1300 pro.....that card is not for gamers...it runs older games but in newer games it has very poor performance.....
6600gt is ok..is better than your current x1300 pro...but also it could dissapoint you very fast if you expect much out of it.....

it is very important to consider the pixel pipes and type of memory that card has...for example 6600gt has 8 pixel pipes and 128 bit interface (i hope i`m not wrong)...newer games require at least 16 pixel pipes and 256 bit interface .......

you could also check the x1600xt or same 6800gs...but i`m not sure you can find either of them on agp

usualy newer games require a fast cpu also ..not that yours isn`t ... but an old p4 could bottleneck a 6800 or other good card.....

if you consider hard gaming you could wait ..an upgrade your entire sistem ...

you could either take it back and get a new one or google ATItool and overclock the crap outta it(remember this voids your warrenty). Good Luck.

Why do people go from _200 model to _300 model cards when they really want _800 GS/GT/XL/XT model cards ?

Here we see the GeForce 5000 series 900 model (2nd highest card in 5000 series) get beat be a GeForce 6200 (6000 series, low[est] 200 model card).

Radeon X1300 Pro, at those settings, gets 31.4 fps average, and would thus dip to about 1/3rd of that in heavier scenes. 😛

Little research beforehand goes a long way.

If you're upgrading from an X1300, don't bother with anything less than an X800 GTO or 6800 GS.

Your best bet under $200 would be a 7600 GT or X850 XT

With any of the cards I've listed, you'll see a huge jump over the X1300. It's just not a huge gaming card, more of a gamer's baseline.
