ATI-TV Wonder

I have this card, but I don't like ATI's software. Is there any other software available that I can use with this card?

Try and see if you can use the WebTV for Windows software that ships with Win98/ME. It can be installed by going to My Computer/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup

Try dTV from deinterlace.sourceforge.net. You will be surprised how good picture you can get from TV Wonder.

I have an allinwonder128 and I never use the proprietary software to capture. I use VirtualDub. It's an awesome program and best of all its free.

Just remember that if you want to capture with Virtualdub you have to set up your card to output to YUY2 packed data format if you want to capture to another codec other than ati's own propietary video format.

I suggest you try this site also:

This is an incredibly fast codec; on my C892 it captures and decodes 640x480 video at 30fps at max quality, using ~30% of the CPU. What's really cool is that Pegasus is giving out free registration codes for their MJPEG codec! Grab this one while you can.

Well hope that helps, I can't recommend Virtualdub enough!

Hi! About your ATI AIW128
Do you have the 16 ou 32Megs?
Is it a nice card?
The 3D performance, is it ok? Is it as good as the riva2? I have an old RIVA TNT 16 on a Duron 700 and still like it.

About capturing in MPEG2, can you choose the bitrate (DVD quality means about 4Mbps)?

Sorry for so many questions but maybe you can answer them all

Thank's

I too use VirtualDub, but only for capture, not for TV watching. ATI's software absolutely won't work under Win2K with my AIW Pro, but I recently discovered ShowShifter, a very nifty package that turns your PC into a super TiVo box. The only problem I have with it is that it has trouble syncing audio with some codecs, particularly DivX 5.0, which is my favourite. They claim to have a fix in the works for this. Right now I use ShowShifter for TV viewing, and VirtualDub for video capture (which syncs audio perfectly). I also use TMPEnc to turn captured video into VCD's for viewing on my DVD player in the livingroom.

Good luck - Slarti.

About that audio sync problem... if you get it sorted out, let me know!!! I can get some sweet looking captures through ATI TV, but I can't convert them without losing audio sync.

As a result, I do all of my capturing through virtual dub using the huffy lossless codec, then I convert to low motion divx (haven't looked at divx 5 yet.. and I don't like divx 4)

Could you explain this? Maybe it is something specific to the AIW128... but with the AIW Radeon and Radeon 7500 all you need is a software 'wrapper' and you can capture using other programs. Because of ATI's use of it's own codecs it leads to issues around audio sync, etc.

I have even heard it said that if you cap in vdub, and convert to divx in vdub (with a perfect file as a result)... if someone later converts that divx file back to vcd - the audio sync problems re-appear!

ATI cards are great... but using their own weird codecs turns out to be just plain annoying for us users.
