Security deposit is probably to make sure you send the tade-up card in. Is there a way to send the card first?

You get the security deposit back when you send in your old card, dude.

Still, I wouldn't bother. Can always sell your old card on ebay for decent cash...

I visit ati.com and read about the trade-up hype. They only have 3 or 4 HIGH PRICED cards for trade-up. I thought they have more selections then that..trade-up is a rip off. They dont give you jack for your card and they charge you up the butt for their's. Also I have a Radeon 8500LE 128mb less than 2yrs and now it's freezing my pc even after I reinstalled the os. So I went to the website and only to find out that they DO NOT support that card anymore. I paid $149 for that piece of crap. I am boycotting ATI! Ain't touching them demons anymore.

What version of Catalyst?

I remember an issue with newer Catalyst drivers not working on older cards (original Radeon 7200)... I think this was version 3.4, 3.5, and 3.6. The latest version that would work reliably (if I remember correctly) was version 3.2. I don't have my 8500 anymore (9700 Pro now), but it's still in the same comp it was when I did have it. Sold that comp to my cousin and they haven't had any problems. Unfortunately, I really don't remember what version of Catalyst it's running.

What'll you give me for an old ATI Xpert, or an AIW PCI 16mb (See photo in THGC album, which I can still get back from a friend)?

$50 US?

Zoron,
I download the 3.9 version. It's not compatible with the 8500LE card. I found the driver for the card, but now it keeps hangging my pc even after reboots. Ati doesn't provide tech support online. They want you to call them so they can charge you $1.25/minute..Ati is an ass!

Xperts go for about $10 USD

AIW PCI 16mb goes for about $15 to $50 USD, due to buyers not understanding how old they are in some cases...

Yeah, which exactly why the $50 would come in handy for a Card in '04 if they are taking 'ANY' card. 2Mb generic POS from the computer surplus store for ~ $1 = $50US rebate. not bad.

Every little bit helps for those of us early adopters.

Try downgrading your drivers. If I remember correctly, Catalyst 3.7 should work reliably with the Radeon 8500.

I traded in an Anihilator 1 I had lying around for 50 bucks off a 9800pro. You get the deposite back after you send in your old card. It was a good deal for me but you're right that the shipping cost should have been lower.

I have exhausted every possibilities that I know. I'm going to retire the stinkin, expensive, crappy performance Radeon 8500LE and am going to write a letter to ATI. This worthless piece of junk gives me more trouble than a 1yr old kid. I'm sticking with the Geforce 5600XT 128mb card. Anyone knows if this is a reliable card or it's just another Radeon 8500LE?

haha it shld be better and with the new drivers it shld work like a dream... i have a friend with the same model as u and he was so addicted to it that he pratically took it out every 2 or 3 days or so just to clean of the dust off the card... crazy huh...

Who is from singapore? I am.
