I have asus p5ld2 deluxe
p4 3.2 HT cpu
2 gigs pc 4200 ram
antek 480 watt ps
ati x1800xt

Only scoring 6000 on 3dmark05 and can't really play EQ2 past high performance settings. Anyone know what the problem could be or maybe some settings I could change to increase performance? I turned hyper threading off and added like 200 points to my 3dmark score but other than that i don't know what I could change.
 
This was an entirely new computer, my game of choice atm is EQ2 and I couldn't increase the settings at all and notice no performance increase over my old computer which is a

ati 9800 pro
asus p4p800
1 gig pc 3200
2.6 p4 ht

I talked to someone at ATI whcih told me I should be scoring 8500 minimum on 3dmark05 other than that he offered no help. I've updated my drivers and my bios and am just completely baffeled by what might be my problem. 🙁
 
dang dude you should be scoring around 9500 on 05, i even score 8198 with my x1800xl card. Try reformating, then install the Mobo drivers first and restart after each driver like it says then networking and modem etc then the newest ATi catalyst 5.13 drivers. Try using xp sp2 also if you can. Then install 3dmark and see what you get. When you reformat make sure you select Non-quick format.
 
ugh reformat? Could this be a software problem thats solved by a reformat? I'd hate to take 6 hours of my saturday but then again it sucks that I spent alot of money and am getting crappy performance. I've thought about reformatting a few times but then thought how pissed i'm gonna be if nothing changes lol.
 
It could be that you have a problem with hyper threading, apparently if you don't have enough ram it can actually impair performance, something about full registers giving a problem, wll find out when my bro get back.
 
You might have antialiasing or anisotropic filtering ON. Check the Display properties/Advanced or (Catalyst Control Center if using that one). If AA or AF is ON, change them to Application Preference.

That seems a little low, balanced seems to be the setting of choice for [H];

but really if they find 40-50FPS to be playable, but if you don't then that might be part of that problem.

Always difficult trouble shooting without good variety of benchmarks. Did you run a memtest program to check you ram? While you say this is a new computer, is that from the time you had the X1800 or did you add it afterwards? If it's been added after, could be old drivers, use driver cleaner pro and re-install catalysts.
Try running some other benchmarks like PCmark, and post a link to the compare results for both your 3Dmark and PCmark, also run the older versions of 3Dmark since their tests are more thorough.
 
Uninstalled ati drivers and ran driver cleaner then re-installed and had little to no change in performance. Ran mem test for 30 minutes 0 errors. Chipsets updated and Bios is updated. Ran 3dmark05 again last night and got 6000, eq2 still runs like crap even in extreme performance. Anyone have any other ideas on why my computer sucks?
 
your card may be faulty... try RMAing it... or mess around with bios and see if everything is set to what it should be what mobo do u have?
 
Allready exchanged the card once and as far as bios ive changed it all around numerous times and nothings changed...the mobo is asus p5ld2 deluxe.

I'm haveing a hard time thinking that 1 or 2 settings changes are gonna get me 2-3k more points on 3dmark05. The computer works fine just seeing poor performance in games, this is getting really frustrating. Next step is to just take a loss and order new mobo cpu and ram I guess.
 
well this happened to me on my agp board... agp write wasnt on and that sped my computer up drastically... about 20k in aquamark so if ud rather spend another 800 dollars than mess around with ur bios for 30 min then be my guest... just a suggestion of course... how old is ur hd? have u defragged? (yes that impacts performance a lot) if all fails try running with 1gb memory just to see what happens... other than that im lost ask some1 with more knowledge
 
Everything in the computer is less than 3 weeks old. I have defragged after each large install. I have also ran the computer with 1 stick of ram which only slowed the computer down. As far as the bios almost everything in it has an auto setting and maybe I don't know enough to change it so maybe thats my problem. I beleive its a amreican microtrends bios is anyone knows anything about that I'd love some advice.
 
going from 2 gigs to 1 shouldnt have slowed u down enough to notice... download ATI tool and tell us what ur clock speeds are, also download cpu-z and see if all ur settings are what they should be.. if its noname brand the timings might be very bad but that wouldnt make u lose 2k performance in 3dmark.. i suggest going out and wasting all ur money on an amd dual core
 
My plan was wasteing all my money on a pentium extreme 😀. thing that scares me at this point is speding alot of money and finding out it was my internet connection or power suplly or something dumb like that. (i dont know how my internet connection could slow my graphics performance down btw)
 
lolz it cant only download and ping... p4 EE = waste if u have all that to spend fx 60 is the way to go :)... and if u do that il take that 3.2 off ur hands 😀.... but like i said try out cpu-z and ati tools and tell us what it shows

I ran cpu z but noway for me to link that here, tell me what to look for and i'll give you the data.


Pne thing I notice is the core speed goes from 2800-3200 and the multiplier goes from x14 to x16 alot
 
Opteron also has a very fast 2.6ghz single core for the 939 pins for about $200 less than the FX, but it OC's nicely, runs cooler, and uses lower voltage than your typical 3500/ 3700, etc.

Same with X2 vs. opteron dual core.

cpu clock speed on a 3.2 is showing 2.8 which goes up and down to 3.2 the clock multiplier also goes from 14x to 16x
 
my guess is a mobo/temperature problem... is the cpu is throttling it slows itself down.. or it could even be a power problem... if u have a stock cooler i suggest buying a good one at a store and if it doesnt solve the problem return it.. if that isnt the problem look into a new mobo
 
The power supply is a antec 480 which is brand new, it may be the power outlet im useing i've noticed the a lamp in the same outlet dim occasionaly lol. Could an old power strip also cause poor performance if the computer isn't getting as much power as it wants? i'm assuming yes.
