Ati2mtag.sys errors and freezing

My computer has been randomly freezing lately so I took a look at the Event Viewer to see if there were any system errors causing this problem.

This seems to happen about the same time as the freezes so I'm guessing this is the reason. From what I can tell this is a popular problem, its just that I can't find a solution to it. I've heard that installing the latest drivers fixes the problem but unfortunately from past experience I have found that the new versions are not fully compatible. This problem isn't major but its quite a nuisance as the freezing happens with out notice. Please help me find the solution to this problem.

what do you mean by "new versions are not fully compatible"

updating to the latest drivers would help, but considering the age of your card, i would just reinstall the drivers. be sure to completely uninstall the ones you have. remember, drivers may become corupted over time

thanks. It has been a while but the last time i updated to the newest version my computer became plagued with errors and the like. is there a specific set of things i must do to completely uninstall the drivers?

Update: Uninstalled and reinstalled an earlier driver 7.8 and the freezing still occurs. however error no longer appears on event viewer.

Still experiencing random freezes. No idea what could be causing them. Please help.
