Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: As little as possible to get the most out of the monitor (1440p high refresh rate)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Fortnite, watching videos, other games, Autocad & Inventor

Are you buying a monitor: No (Already bought)

Parts to Upgrade: Everything except the monitor

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Any Belgian / Dutch one

Location: Belgium

Parts Preferences: No parts / brands with many issues. Prefer one of the highest quality options without overspending

Overclocking: Probably not

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 2560x1440p 165hz

Additional Comments: He does not care much about system longevity. His current pc is 7 years old so by the time he upgrades again even AM5 will probably be obsolete. Also does not care about raytracing.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My brother's pc is outdated for gaming (i5 6500 & Gtx 1060). Old monitor just broke and got replaced with a 1440p 165hz one and now I'm trying to build a "somewhat budget pc" that will get the most out of the monitor for many years.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor (€314.95 @ Azerty)
I think this is the best option for not bottlenecking a 6950 XT for someone who doesnt care about being on a "dead platform".
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (€41.00)
Not sure if it will be good enough but I read somewhere that it has insane performance for the price
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard (€139.95 @ Amazon Belgium)
I think it has everything he will need without overspending on things he won't. ROG is good quality and Asus make good mobo's.
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (€69.00 @ Amazon Belgium)
I think this is the sweet spot?
Storage: Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Already owned
Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€49.99 @ Amazon Belgium)
This was supposed to be a good budget option for Pci 4 SSD. He does need some more storage. Not sure if it will give much performance gains in games over the cheapest ssd's though.
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive (Purchased For $0.00)
Already owned
Video Card: XFX Speedster MERC 319 Radeon RX 6950 XT 16 GB Video Card (€500.00)
Found a seller of MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X Trio for 500EUR. If it doesn't go through I can buy a new XFX Radeon RX 6950 XT Merc 319 Black for 660EUR
Case: Lian Li LANCOOL III ATX Mid Tower Case (€155.89 @ Alternate Belgium)
This and Fractal Torrent stay the coolest. I think it makes sense to rather spend more on a cooler case than a better CPU cooler for pretty much a 100% gaming pc.
Power Supply: Cooler Master i600 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (Purchased For $0.00)
Might need a new one.
Monitor: LG 27GN850-B 27.0" 2560 x 1440 144 Hz Monitor (Purchased For $0.00)
Already bought this
Total: €1270.78
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Hey there,

That's a pretty solid build, IMO. However, the glaringly obvious issue is the underpowerd PSU.

Get a good gold rated unit. Crosair RM850X to allow for power hungry upgrades down the line.
Don't cheap out on the PSU. It's literally the most important factor for a build. Buy cheap, buy twice.

I found a better SSD for about the same price but it doesn't have a heatsink:

Do I even need a heatsink on the m.2 ssd? The mobo has heatsinks over the slots.
EDIT: Lol I guess not, the P3 plus also doesnt have it.

99% sure this is final update

^ might be worth choosing a mobo with wifi, or buying a wifi card.
He has a internet cable to his desk.

Ordered.

Chose a different GPU because the merc for 635EUR from amazon could take 2 weeks to arrive. Chose the phantom for 650. Could have picked another merc for 660 but didn't see the point really. Now I'm reading that it has 3x8-pin connectors instead of 2x8 like the merc. Will this work just as well?
