I also plan on eventually upgrading to get an SSD (in a few months), and in a few years likely to an intel i5 processor and intel motherboard.

If you know any parts that you think would work better in this build please let me know!
Also, general feedback on what you think about this.

Additional Comments: Using windows 10, already have speakers, monitor, etc.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Old laptop isn't getting the job done anymore and I'd like to be able to enjoy my games more

this does not include mail in rebates but it would be cheaper if it did.

the r9 390 will consume more power but if you play a few hours a day on average for a few years it will only cost you 10 - 20$ more assuming you have 12 cents per kilowatt hour. And the performance is worth it IMO

Sure it's better. Sure you will lose frames. But the price performance in games is hardly worth it. You will lose about 10 frames at the worst of times, most times no loss. If you're rendering, i'd go with the I5. If strictly gaming, paying almost an extra $100 for a few frames is hardly worth it imo.

I would take the Gigabyte H97M-D3H and ASRock H97M Pro4 over the H97M Anniversary.
