I have a 700 watt rocketfish power supply I installed that run good for 7 days under heavy loads wile playing call of duty 4 and
crytek all settings on high, run with out a glitch load or no load, then instantly shouting down, voltages all checking out good both by software and a volt meter, reconnecting the wires several times still go's dead, some times after a minuet or up to a hour, load or no load,
pushing the power button the computer would boot right back up.
so i hooked my old 500 watt power supply back up, running good again. excepted the games would lockup,
after installing a Ge force 8800 gts, the reason i got the slightly used rocketfish
from eBay, I done some testing of my one,
The short circuit protection test, I have done this to many power supplies as a last result.
using a momentary switch, when any of the 12v 5v 3.3v output voltages are shorted to ground a good supply shouts
off instantly,
and the power supplies are still good, turn the main power ac line switch off Wait 30 seconds switch the ac line back on
first hooking the atx power tester back up and the supply comes back on.
still works good,
When testing this 700 watt rocketfish shorting the 12v instantly shout down, but the 5v only after 3 to 5 seconds the 3.3 smoked the wires and the supply kept running like nothing was wrong, no nother in the supply over heated eather? I had my voltmeter connected to each output as I tested each volteg,
Wile the 3.3 volt was shorted the volteg never dropped but stayed at 3.3,
using my atx power tester showing all voltages good at the same time,
repeating the short test yelded the same every time, this power supply is like a ark welder on the 3.3v and 5v sense it takes 3 to 5 seconds to shout down on the 5v.
I then hooked this power supply up to a MB board runs good, all software voltage monitoring all good.
I'M not using this 700 watt rocketfish.
This very well could start a fire if the 3.3v ware shorted in the case,
Power supplies can look good but fry your system.
this one hooked to any thing unfused could start a fire.
I don't have another one to see if the same results would be on the 5v and 3.3.
