Hello everyone,

I've moved a bit recently and started having a grudge on my PC case. It's modern and has good ventilation but given its 5 kgs and its 5 unsued drive bays I decided searching for a better alternative.

What I have:
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?p=CA-VL81W2Z&c=fr&pid=0d12e737a31c320cd7b4c9f7f197f119e5864502682164b89720945c8c4a0f15&gclid=CjwKEAiAw4e1BRDfi7vghaWU9jESJACzo9juX9pN90QY-4RDvholA92hPjRUMtTCrKwudNoMCYW19hoCJj7w_wcB#

(keep in mind its dimensions and weight)

The only alternative that I found until now (which still has drive bays):
http://www.spire-corp.com/computer-cases/coolbox-503-spd503b-r/

(this is a bit smaller and 0.6 kgs lighter)

Does anyone know of a case that has no external drive bays (I really don't need a DVD Rom or a Floppy) and just 1 internal bay (I have a SSD and I don't need any more storage)?

I'm sure that at least 10 cm and an extra 0.5-1 kg will be saved with this. Thanks in advance!

Quick edit:
I have an ATX motherboard and my graphics card is a 780 ti:

Pity you didnt have an MATX mobo. You could have used a Zalman T1 Plus, or any of the Zalman T1 cases.

Similar to the new build I have here

It does have a 5.25 bay, but it's hidden.

Thats it. But it's got good cable management (good if you have a modular PSU). Bottom mounting PSU, and supports 4 fans.

And there's 3 places you can install an SSD. On the other side of the case, the bottom, or under the 5.25 bay

For those of you that stumble upon this thread and are still looking for an answer:

--> LIAN LI PC-V33B <--

It has no external drive bays and 4 internal drive bays. It's made for Micro ATX and ATX motherboards. It has some limitations for the size of your video card and your CPU cooler but they are more that acceptable:

Also here's a quick review if you wanna see it "in action" (with pieces in it, from different sides, etc):

Pros:
It's small (and somewhat cubical), it's not heavy, it has a minimalist design (YAY!), and it has great airflow.

Cons:
It's a bit pricey: 200$ for a case is a bit jaw-dropping in my opinion, but there are worse prices out there.
(personal opinion) 4 internal drive slots: Well, since we're going towards a minimalist style, they should have kept enough room just for 1-2 drive slots.

Hello Samer,

Preferably as low as possible (around 50$). The option that I found fits the bill but it's so expensive that it's justified only if you're building a new system from the ground up and expenses aren't a concern.

Do you know any other options?

I checked your suggestion JQB45 and the case is actually bigger and heavier.

There is one more option that is even smaller than the Lian Li, but sadly it's airflow and cooling capabilities are also smaller than that of the Lian Li:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208060

This is 25% lighter than my case and shaves off 176 mm of space (adding together all the dimensions and subtracting the value I got from the value gotten for my case's dimensions). In comparison, the Lian Li is only 14.3% lighter and 117 mm smaller.

Your suggestion is 66% heavier and 53 mm bigger.

I'm a little confused. You want a case designed for an ATX motherboard. Why are you concerned with weight? Personally, I would want the heaviest case I can afford because I want the case to be strong enough to last 15 years. If you want a low weight case get a mATX or mITX motherboard and case.

No external bays are pretty easier to come by. Only one internal bay............not so much (at least not while being able to accommodate an ATX board).

You're not going to shave much off in terms of height - as it still has to accommodate the ATX board, or depth, as most still want to accommodate the longest GPUs (although you could remove drive cages that are not needed). Width is the other variable.....although most ATX cases are right around 200mm in width (to allow full-height GPUs and decent sized coolers).

I would've suggested something like the NZXT S340
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=CA-S340GR2&c=CJ

Adds width, reduces depth (limits some GPUs) and marginally reduces height - but build quality is much greater.
As a result of the build quality though, the weight is right around 50% greater.

The thing is that I have a full ATX motherboard that cost me a fortune (~ 200 Euros) and is one of the few that were able to run my CPU ~ 3 years ago. I have AMD FX 8350 and Asus Sabertooth 990 FX R. 2.0.

While I presume that nowadays there are cheap mATX motherboards that run my CPU well, I'm reluctant to invest any more money in my PC except for the case itself. If I pay 100 $ for a new motherboard and another 200$ for a new case then that's already 1/3rd the price of a new good gaming PC.

You're right: I'm looking for smaller size, weight. By fully removing drive bays you get to remove more space -> less size and weight. Only Lian Li seems to fully understand the concept of a minimalist, driveless full ATX case. While there are other options, they still have the useless drive bays.

There are no good mATX AM3+ mobos sadly ... Where are you in europe ? and why are you asking for a $50 case and not euro?

here check these cases (3.8 KG and small but are ~100 euros)

http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-a55/

or ths 4.1 kg

http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-a56/

Those have the powersupply in the front reducing the height of the ccase

Most of the sites are originally American and most of the prices and reference stores are also displaying the value in $, so I'm kinda used to that.

I looked over both those cases and they are smaller but substantially longer and wider. Here's my exact comparison which showcases the only two options that I've found:

Mine:
