Question ATX tripping when I install the battery

When I install the battery the ATX power supply only stays on for a few seconds, then trips off.
Without the battery everything works great past the time/date error on load.
I'm assuming the motherboard has a short somewhere. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Battery? You referring to a motherboard's CMOS battery? That should be in your motherboard t all times! Apart from the make and model of your PSU, how old is the unit?
