Audio Card will not allow System to boot

I am currently working with this system:
CPU
Intel Core i7-3770
CPU Cooler
Rosewill RCX-ZAIO-92
Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H
Memory
Crucial 16GB
Storage
Seagate 3TB 7200RPM
Video Card
PNY GeForce GTX 770
Sound Card
Asus Xonar Essence STX
Case
NZXT Source 220
Power Supply
Antec 550W
Optical Drive
Asus BW-12B1ST/BLK/G/AS

The problem that I am running into is when I boot my system with the Audio Card in the PCIEX1 slot it will not boot. The System will turn on but no display. When I built the system I built it oustide of the case and didnt install the Audio Card until i got the mob/cpu/video installed in the case after I checked that it would boot. So the system boots without the Audio card and I am able to use the computer but once i try to install the Audio card in the system I cant boot.

The motherboard has slots in order:
PCIex16
PCIEX1_1
PCIEX1_2
PCIEx4
PCI_1
PCI_1

My VIdeo card is on my PCIEX16 and sits over top of the pciex1_1 so I have to use the pciex1_2 slot. Now I am not sure if the slot is just disabled or if there is something else that I am not properly doing in order to get my Audio card to boot with this system.

Try the x4 slot that's were I've always installed my audio cards.
I've always had issues using any slots beside the x16 gpu slot for audio cards.
