For some reason, with my headset plugged in, it no longer works. I have it plugged into the audio jacks in the rear of my computer. When I open my audio devices, it keeps switching between "Not Plugged In" to "Default Device". My motherboard is an MSI Z97M-G43. My audio drivers are all up to date. I'm also on Windows 10 if that matters. Any input would help.

Solution
It sounds like you could have an intermittent break in the conductor of the headphones.

This is why it switches betweem "not plugged in" and "default device".

The break is most likely inside the insulation and you can't see it.

The breaks usually happen near the ends. Either the headphone end or the plug end.

Sometimes you can find the break by just bending the cable. If it bends too easy in one spot....that's probably the spot.

...or if you can bend the cable and get the problem to come and go...that's the spot.

I'm not sure if that would be it. My microphone also does the same thing. I probably should've said that in the question, apologies.
Also thanks for the quick reply
