So I noticed the onboard audio wasn't working when I fired up my old Windows XP rig and there was no welcome sound. I tried playing a YouTube video and still no sound. After this I assumed the onboard audio had died after 12 years of service and got an Asus Xonar DGX. I seated the sound card in the board's PCI-e X1 slot and fired it up, disabled onboard audio in BIOS, and installed the Xonar drivers from the CD. When I reboot, there is still no welcome noise and device manager says the driver is fine. So I go into Sounds and Audio Devices and the card is not detected there! Only the old 56k modem is listed as a sound device! Sounds like a pretty strange problem and was wondering what is should do to get it working. The Asus DGX Audio Center will not launch either.
