Hi all!

Does anyone have a schematic (or can you direct me to one) on how to hook up a 5.1 audio system (subwoofer + central, front Left, front right, rear left, rear right speakers) to my Samsung TV using an Audio Digital (Optical) Cable? I see the RCA ports on the subwoofer's back, but on the Optical cables I have seen for sale, I don't see how they "split" into five or more outputs (one for each speaker). Is there an additional piece of hardware I need?

Thanks!

You need to have one of these

The optical output from a TV can be used to get sound to a receiver like above. I have the setup like you are asking about. If said receiver has a optical input

Than connect the speakers to the audio receiver there will be a manual or a quick start guide how to do this with the audio receiver.
But match left middle right with the correct speaker connections on the back of the receiver.

The subwoofer that has RCA jack's may need a Y cable to hook it up to a receiver. I did with mine.

I need to buy a $200+ piece of equipment, plus the Digital (Optical) cable to hook my sound system up to TV? That blows. :)

In reading up a little bit more about it, I do see where some sites say I need a "DVD or Blu-ray player, a receiver, an amplifier, or the system’s subwoofer." This being the case, and seeing as my subwoofer has all the correct RCA inputs (C, FL, FR, RL, RR ...), could that not be used in lieu of the receiver? If so, how would I connect the digital optical cable to the wires which connect to the subwoofer? Basically, back at my original question. :) Can it be done?

Which specific make and model of subwoofer?

The set is a Goldwood "Acoustic Audio AAT1003 Bluetooth Tower 5.1 System with 8" Powered Subwoofer". Nothing fancy or high-dollar, but I thought it could be connected to a TV.

Oh, wait ... duh! I think I see the input for the Optical cable. I'd have to wait until I get home to double check ... but I'm guessing that's all I need? RCA lines to designated ports and the digital optical cable from/to subwoofer/TV?

No, you will need a digital to analog converter. There are limited choices because most of them only convert to 2 channels so only a few convert of 5.1 channels:

Thanks! Is this the same thing https://a.co/d/9cZMT6z or are the ones you posted different / better? Which would you recommend, please; and I am guessing they come with directions on how to connect it all properly?

Also, just found this on the Goldwood site. So, one of these converters + digital Optical cable ought to do it, yes?

They both look like they're the same; probably from the same factory in some foreign country. Pick whichever one you like; one has a slightly higher rating and more ratings. All of the inputs and outputs are clearly labelled; all you need to do is press the input button to select the spdif and press in the 5.1 selection button.

Haha! True. TY!

P.S. Wow - all the 6 RCA ones really do have crappy ratings. 🙁

DVD/ bluray players are only needed if you are going to play movies. High end RCA cables will be around 50 bucks. I did not know what set you purchased until now. I can not get a good look at the back of the subwoofer due to the bad photos on the web and the manual I downloaded. Not sure I call that a manual. But all those C, FL, FR, RL, RR Are for your speakers in the set.

What are you planing to do this the setup? The TV if it has RCA Jack connections in the back than you can connect that to the Subwoofer without any other Digital Sound Decoder if its a input connection. Some TV have the RCA connections mixed into the component video inputs. I suggest looking in your TV manual see if it states RCA connections.
