Audio jacks and peripheral detection

The issue:
The motherboard is a Maximus VII Hero, so it uses Realtek HD Audio drivers. In the settings, if I use the 'AC97 front panel setting, the headphone and mic port always show something in it. If I switch it to HD Audio, it doesn't show anything in it, even when I plug something into it.

I can't figure out why this happens.

I recently upgraded to the Razer NZXT H440 case from a Aerocool Cyclone II case, and when I was on the Aerocool case I never had this issue.

Can anyone help me identify the cause and/or help me find a solution to fix it? Thanks!

First thing I would do is check in the BIOS to see if there is a setting that allows you to enable/disable the HD Audio header. It could be that it is disabled.

I just checked the BIOS, it was already enabled (I probably enabled it for the previous case I used). So this isn't the problem. :\
