I finished building my new pc about a month ago and everything is working fine except I am having issues with the audio in it. Whenever I plug any sort of speaker system in I get a high pitch static/white noise (almost a squeal). I have tested on multiple sound systems and it does the same thing. I've also tested these same ones on my laptop and haven't had a problem. I'm assuming it's the sound card that is picking up/ generating the noise and I haven't been able to fix it. I have an Asus z87-Pro motherboard. I produce music so this is extremely important for me to fix. I have two questions.

1. Is there a way to fix this?
or
2. Would getting an external sound card solve my problem? I've been considering one anyway.

So is this problem normally caused by a faulty motherboard? My motherboard's warranty has expired so I would like to avoid going out and spending money on a new one and reinstalling everything. If I bought an external sound card would this fix my problem?

Pretty much all motherboards have sound built into them.
Some people pay extra for a seperate high quality sound card.
Whatever produces the sound on your computer is broken.

I have the same problem on one of my old PCs.
We bought a sabrent usb sound adapter, which does a surprisingly good job for £5
If you spend a lot more money, you can get proper hi fi sound quality.

I managed to get a hold of a cheap micro usb sound card from a friend to plug my speakers into to test the problem. When I plugged the speakers into the new sound card it was still producing the noise. It was quieter but only slightly. I'm now debating if the issue is the motherboard or if I am getting noise through the electrical from the fans or something that is causing it.
