Ok. I scrubbed two HD's, I loaded Windows 7 Pro on one, and I did XP SP2 on the other. The audio drivers work fine with 7 Pro, but I can't get audio from the HD with XP.

I have tried EVERYTHING from deleting and reinstalling, looking for the "hdaud" files and installing from there, you name it. Still? Nothing.

Does ANYONE know what I'm missing here?

By the way, it's for an XPS 420.

Are they supported with your manufacturer?

I looked here

http://downloads.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/xps-420.html

I noticed:
SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio, v.6.10.0.5511, A04
Sigmatel STAC92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver

Aren't for Windows XP

But:

Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, v.RC2.0 , Web A02
Latest Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi web post driver ( 31 March 2008)

That's supported.

What's the exact audio device that are you using?
