Audio output only from left/right speakers on HyperX cloud

I have an Asus z97-A with realtek ALC898 on-board sound card that supports 7.1. I went to the windows speaker configuration and it shows the test option for the 7.1 setup, but I only hear sound from the left and right speakers.

I tried updating the drivers and I thought of trying the Dolby digital live hack, but I already have DTS (after updating the driver). I checked the jack connections and they are correct according to the color on the jack.

Is it the on-board sound card lacking decoders, or the Hyperx cloud not supporting virtual surround (I thought it did because of the cloud II USB card)?

For starters you might right clicking on your speaker icon and going to playback devices. If you right click in the screen that opens up you can select "show disabled devices." If it shows up after that you can simply enable it and be good to go. That's where I would start anyway.

Hope that helps!

The headset is working properly except when I set it to anything other than stereo. When I test it in some games, it feels like there are some missing sounds and "dead zones" that are basically sounds that come out of the virtual speakers that don't work.

When I do the 7.1 surround test, I only hear from left and right; center, right/left-forward and the rest don't have any sound output.

Connecting the two jacks using the front panels instead of the ones in the back (directly to the motherboard) kinda solved the issue. The headset passes the 7.1 test (I can hear from every speaker) but they are probably not working in-games and windows applications.

Edit: Welp. I will stick to stereo for now. I don't care anymore.
